Agree 100 million percent about republicans backing themselves into a corner. When I learned about the norquist (sp?) Pledge they signed several years ago, I turned my back on the GOP.

I was a Bush supporter for both of his terms and generally a GOP supporter. However that tax pledge changed it all for me. I can never support that level of irresponsibility in government. Anything could happen where we are forced to raise taxes. To sign a pledge that you won't no matter how much it is needed is just insane and no way a person who signs a pledge like that should ever be in a position of influence or power.

Just no way for me to take the GOP seriously when they limit their ability to govern so drastically and irresponsibly.

Tiger Miami, we are receiving record amounts of tax receipts yet we have a 500 bil deficit. That tells you that dems are full of poop when they say we don't a spending problem.

Obama himself said it is "stinkburger" to think we have a spending problem.

Our problem is social security, Medicare, Medicaid and interest in the national debt.

Until you come up with a comprehensive solution to address those, don't even attempt to start a conversation with me on anything related to spending or taxes unless you are wanting to talk raising taxes. Otherwise you are wasting my time and either you are stupid or you think I'm stupid.

Because nothing else matters at tax cuts are off the table until you tell me your plan for the Big 4 drivers of debt.

Also, again this is exactly why I can't support the GOP. They have never put forth a plan to address the Big 4 drivers of the debt, yet have had the audacity to talk tax cuts.

Seriously, that is fricking laughable. They think the American public is stupid as shite and they are 95% right. However that 5% that isn't stupid is what cost them the last presidential election and it was because of Romney's ridiculous economic plan with the Big tax cuts.

tax cuts have historically not led to a decrease in tax receipts.

Republicans have actually tried to do something about Social Security, but I don't really agree that privatizing it is the solution.

But they have led to less receipts than would have been received without the cuts.

Your logic is extremely faulty and incomplete.

I would support partial privitazation but with a lot of rules and controls. Can't trust people to manage responsibly. Human nature and it's gambling nature along with lack of investment education would cause a disaster.

Dems are just the responsible party right now. They have suggested raising the retirement age and changing the cost of living adjuster/index.

Again, I'll flip from Dem to GOP tomorrow if I think they are more fiscally and economically responsible. I have no allegiance and think all of congress is full of people that don't give a frick about a damn thing except reelection for money and power.

Yep, Bush presented a 4 percent opt out to private. Dems said millions would die in the streets. The MSM repeated the lie. Idea went away.

Republicans have suggested the same thing. Democrats ran the granny cliff ad.

The bigger problem with SS is Congress treating the SS Trust Fund as their personal bank account, thanks to Saint Ronnie Reagan.

If both parties want the retirement age raised, then why isn't it happening? Or cost of living adjusted?

Yeah you can. Obama has about doubled the deficit to 18 trillion dollars and you voted for him.

Then why did the democrat Mary Landrieu run an ad saying that her opponent, the republican, wants to raise the retirement age?

Lol at you believing any party is a "responsible party" by the way.

It's all relative. The Dems are more fiscally responsible right now because they aren't the ones who put in ludicrous tax cuts while we have an entitlement spending problem neither party will address, and actually want more.

I really don't see where there is any room for debate on which party is more fiscally responsible right now and the last decade or so. Both by actions (Bush tax cuts) and words (Romney's plan).

I'm far from a Bush fan, nor very conservative, and I'll defend the Bush tax cuts. At the time, there was nothing wrong with them, other than the 8 year sunset on them. Then 9/11 happened, and he lied us into a costly war. They should have had a 2 year sunset on them, but he didn't want raising taxes to be part of his legacy.

Here were are 14 years later and Republicans are still fighting tooth and nail over some of the cuts expiring.

If you say so. They did contribute to the budget deficit.

What were the budget deficits when the House was Democratic and the White House was Democratic?
