Well. To be sure, the God of the Bible is one giant shithead. I mean, under no rational standard is that dude not a completely awful being. One can only hope for the sake of the religious that if he exists, he's not nearly as big a shite as he seems. Otherwise, I've got bad news for them and this whole "heaven is perfect" meme.

The only other topic that gets more attention on this board is race topics.
For some reason it's really important for you "non believing" types to let others know you don't believe.
Whoopee, you want a cookie?
Bumper sticker? A special TD avatar?
It's like you boys are super proud of it and want everyone to know.

Read all my prior post from yesterday. I'm thinking of 5-6 athiests I know and all but 1 constantly have to talk about how they are athiest. The other one still gets on a kick every now and then about it.

Eta: As I've said in other post, Christians can be just as bad but I would say less than 10% of Christians I know flaunt it to everybody, whereas 90-99% of athiests I know do.

Hell, that's not even the bad stuff.

Hell, the whole book of Job should make any rational person say, "what the frick?!?!".

There's a lot of lip service to "loving" us but his actions say that he "loves us" a good bit the way a 12 year with a magnifying glass "loves" his ant farm.

The vast majority of atheists and agnostics are "in the closet" as it were, because of the social stigma in the US. So nothing could be further from the truth.

On this board in particular there does to appear to be a lot more agnostic and atheists posters compared to ~5 years ago.

But you're right

Sorry, apparently I can only copy and paste whole damn thing and not just your quote. I disagree, 90% of this board and my FB are athiest it seems. Outside of the south athiesm seems pretty prevalent and getting more so even in the south. Doesn't bother me one bit, I just don't think people are in the closet with it as much as you think.

A message board is completely different. We are, for the most part, anonymous. We can be vitriolic or aggressive in our philosophies on here. It is an open forum.

In person, the vast majority of people would have no clue that I am agnostic because I do not talk about it at all. I've seen others get destroyed by friends and family for having similar thought processes and its just not worth it. I keep my thoughts to myself and give lip service to things that are important to friends and family. I was married in a Catholic ceremony because it made both of our parents happy. I would baptize my child because it makes our family happy.

It doesn't mean I believe in any of that stuff.

The reason why Christians feel that Atheists are "in their face" is because there has been a tool for them to be heard now for awhile (the internet) and they are feeling more bold as it becomes more socially acceptable.

It is pretty laughable for a Christian (or Muslim) to complain about it though, considering they are the very definition of "in your face" with their belief structure.

Their are definitely far more in the closet than you can imagine. They just recently have a tool to broadcast their thoughts and it is only recently become more socially acceptable.

I guarantee there are far more that are "Christian" (ie either in name only or in reality) than are atheist/agnostic.

Plus they are getting more bold IRL as well instead of just putting up with it. They aren't trying to get rid of religious laws or things that openly support one religion like Christmas manger displays/Ten Commandments. Christians play the "OMG, we are being attacked" part when in reality people are just seeking parity.

Your point about it being talked about on a message board is a good point. I didn't think about that. I see what your saying. As a Christian, I don't care if somebody is athiest, devil worshipper, Buddhist, whatever, just being a good person and hating Atlanta Falcons is all I ask.

The internet has given them a place to talk about it. And as others find those like them, it makes them feel accepted and more able to talk about it openly. There has always been an extremely large group of people that didn't believe in magic and all of your mumbo jumbo, but they are not organized in any way.

My wife's grandfather is 83 and he "doesn't believe any of that junk", but he wouldn't talk about being an atheist or anything. He just doesn't believe that stuff.

I think you have that wrong.

They are erecting "Satanic Displays" (sarcastically Satantic, they don't actually believe in Satan) next to nativities to try and get them to stop putting up religious displays of any kind on government property. They don't really believe in Satan or the Old Gods or anything like that. They are definitely trying to get rid of religious laws, and they should.

What's your definition of living a good life? God's plan for us is way beyond what you would consider being a good person. In Christianity, we know that we cannot live up to those expectations; but in Christ, all of our sins are washed away.

It's awful to want us to love each other? It's aweful to have limitless grace to forgive us when we fall short? I hope that you one day get to know God better.

It's awful to send people to hell for not believing in him, while at the same time, providing no proof that he exists.

This fallacy agin.
You have free will to make your own choices. If you were "sent" somewhere, that wouldn't be free will. You choose your destination.
