Take a gander at these #'s. It'll be the largest grossing PPV event in sports history if it happens.

That's not what it says. It will be the largest purse in history (a shiek from UAE is guaranteeing Mayweather 120 MILL to fight. That doesn't have anything to do with PPV.

I know the article doesn't say anything about PPV numbers,

But, it WILL be the largest PPV in sports history.

Now imagine what the numbers would have been like if this fight had happened when it should have THREE YEARS AGO.

It will still be a big draw, but still counts as a massive missed opportunity for boxing.

This is it, this is all boxing has left. I grew up loving Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, hell even Lenox Lewis. I havn't watched a boxing match in 5 yrs and when this fight is done I probably won't watch another one. Face it, its boring. The heavyweight division is run by guys that their whole game plan is to jab and hold.

If some rich prince is a big enough idiot to pay FM $120 million, then good on Mayweather.

But this fight is at least two or three years too late, if not more.

You Einstein's to know that a US born fighter is fighting for the HW C'chip next month, right?

BTW, he's won every one of his fights by KO. Not exactly much holding going on there.

No we don't know, and most of America doesn't.

That's why boxing is dead. No one can name any boxers not named manny or floyd

This fight is comparable to a bike that I wanted when I was 10. I did not get said bike for Christmas, however 5 years later, I did receive a bike as a gift. I had no use for the bike then.

Every boxing fan, including myself, was desperate for this fight 5-6 years ago. It didn't happen. It's not the same fight. I will not be purchasing.

Boxing will be dead until a Heavyweight comparable to Tyson or Ali comes around, or if UFC goes under (which it probably won't).

The powers that be in boxing killed the golden goose by not making the best fights when they needed to be made, while at the same time failing to recognize that UFC was emerging and winning new fans.

Boxing promoters greed did the sport in, I agree. UFC is one organization and runs everything. I know the smaller orgs have MMA too but nothing is on the level as UFC. That is why it is organized and flourishing. Boxing used to be like that until it split into 20 different entities. At any given time, you might have 6 "world champions" in the same weight class. IF UFC ever has internal greed to power struggles and starts to split then it could get messy.

to my point:
Below are amateur and professional boxing organizations, the sanctioning bodies of boxing that sponsor championship fights and award titles (belts). Some consider the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) to be the only legitimate ones and refer to the others as alphabet soup (abbreviations of sanctioning bodies that have sprung up since the 1980s that award what serious boxing fans consider worthless titles.)
