re: If we don't make the playoffs next year would it be "underperforming"?

Lsu will always lose 3 games under miles. 2011 was an abnormalty. Les is average. Period. And our admins will just accept this mediocrity like the majority of our small minded limited thinking fanbase. Meanwhile, Bama will continue to own us winning titles.

Playoffs...PLAYOFFS?? Lol...but seriously, if we don't develop either of these two QBs for dramatic improvement then 3rd or 4th in West is best we can expect. Even with all that talent around them.

All this talent coming back should mean title contention. Nothing less.

The standards by which we hold the football team have been declining. I don't think the program as a whole is declining as much as the expectations have. I truly believe people will get used to being mid-pack to slightly above in the SEC. As long as we're getting the big recruits people will continue to defend Miles. I can say that I have accepted the fact that Alabama is a notch above, and that we shouldn't measure ourselves against them.

It's never underperforming when you have a laundry list of excuses.

I keep hearing ppl say we're going to be loaded etc etc. Does that mean everybody expects a playoff run? And if not how much hotter does Miles seat get?

It all depends on the QB. We can beat any team next year if we have solid QB play. If not we will only go so far.

While it would be disappointing not to reach the playoffs, I do not think it will be an "underachievement." Only four teams are selected from the entire country, and we saw that if the committee does not exactly give any level of deference to a non-SEC champion team if there are other conference champs with equal or better records out there.

Given the level of competition in the SEC year in and year out (particularly within the West), it will be difficult in and of itself to make it out of conference play unscathed. Although in 2009, 2010, and 2011, the SEC champion was undefeated, I don't foresee that ever being the norm again.

Thus, I feel that unless the playoff field were expanded to 8 teams, we will have to win the conference outright to earn a playoff spot (except in the off chance that our record would still be superior to other conference champs - much like Alabama in 2011, only warranted due to 4 available spots).

It will take a gargantuan effort to win the conference next season, although I am not ruling out the possibility that we could. The defense will be one of the most talented squads we've had in Les' tenure. The skill players on offense return nearly everyone (and hopefully, some key guys return on the line). All of our specialists return as well. It will all come down to QB play, of course, and that is about as unpredictable as ever. With an entire offseason to grow, I hope that our QBs take time to gain a better understanding of the offense and improve their own skill sets in the process. In the end, decent QB play is all that we need to make a run next season (oh, and avoiding the injury bug).

Probably like this year. I hope not but we seem to be happy with mediocrity.

without even average qb play we wont be in the playoff next year or the foreseable future...it's really that simple

And miles has his hard on for jennings, so you do the math

As long as the $$ keep rolling through the door, nobody in the administration cares about our success on the field. Nothing but BS cheap talk from Alleva. Miles could go 6 - 6 until his contract expires and Alleva will do Nothing.
If the NFL eligible players (except Collins) return, we should be in the playoffs. WIll we - I highly doubt it. The QB position with Jennings is a serious liability. If Jennings starts again next year, we should expect at least 3 losses again.
