I saw that. I would bet my life the chick who wrote that has never had a real job in her life.

Being a published writer isn't a real job?

It really isn't these days. And I should know.

Why should you know?

It looks like she's getting paid, so I think that meets the definition of "real job"

a) it's just a blog post so she may not be getting paid

b) if she is, it's no more than a few hundred bucks

c) IF the New Yorker pays people to post on its blog, it would be one of the few publications that does

I know a bit about the industry. There are VERY few "writers" today who make their living from creative writing only. Some teach to pay the bills, others have other jobs, and others live off of family money. That's the reality.

This chick, I would bet almost anything, is one of the latter.

I was referring to her other publications.

You know virtually nothing about this chick, you're just speculating that she's living off family money because you don't like that she's making fun of Ayn Rand.

Dude, I don't know why you're getting your panties in a bunch over this. She doesn't have any "other publications." I actually looked into her. She is a professional blogger. In my opinion, that is not a "real job." In fact, she does come from a wealthy family, btw.

Atlas Shrugged is my favorite book and I am a big Ayn Rand fan. This was hilarious.

Daughter's blog is described as 'feminist humor blog'. Yeahhhhh, those two terms fit together.

Being published is an achievement, but certainly not a job.

If I can find it at the public library, I plan on reading 'Atlas Shrugged'. If not, I'll buy a used copy and donate it.

The humor is subjective but my self satisfied sophistication level just rose 300%. Thank you New Yorker.

What do you speculate the author's employment circumstances are like?

I think that people need to avoid being totally humorless.

Was the list playing on a slightly inaccurate or exaggerated view of Rand's beliefs? Yeah.

Was it funny? Yep. Hell, comedy pretty much always plays on caricatures of actual real life stuff. That's sort of the point.
