LSU had a WR drafted 3/4 years Joran Jefferson was the QB for LSU. If you have talent, the NFL will find you.

no, it's not. even when healthy, he was a below average NFL receiver. He absolutely should not have gone in the 1st round, regardless of his durability. He can thank LSU and Jamarcus Russell for that.

Wish Demetrius Byrd could be on the list. I think he would've been a good one.

Basically all the players that come through LSU under Mile's tenure, but then go on to star in the pros.

I honestly don't know if your posts are dripping with sarcasm and you're leading this guy on or if you actually believe what you're typing..

"misunderused" has really confounded me.

Right, so ignore his contributions on special teams, and his potential to develop into a more consistent role in an offense? Is that right?

What's your point on this anyway? You said somehow. I explained the somehow, then you come back to put him down again and completely write off his career with a snarky remark?

As far as his time at LSU, we're talking about a guy that was underutilized, in my opinion. I've posted about this numerous times on this board -- I think he really had the chance to excel with LSU in a more consistent niche role in the run game -- as a complementary runner, getting to the boundary and stretching Defenses horizontally -- he averaged over 7 YPC during his career (and 7 YPC vs. Alabama). I've posted different breakdowns dealing with how and why Alabama is susceptible to outside runs. I can link/copy and paste those for you if you'd like. He should have had a more consistent role as as a complement to the inside/power-running game. He had more natural ability with the ball in his hands than he did in all the different aspects of being a receiver. I also think he would have benefited from playing at a heavier weight. Maybe around 205-210.

Well, if you want to argue the merit of him being a first-round pick, or whether or not he was an average NFL receiver during his career, that's completely different from your original statement:

quote:

Craig Davis had no business in the NFL

You do understand the difference in these statements, right?

20 catches for 188 yards, and a TD during his rookie year, which wasn't a full year because of injury. From there, injuries were a consistent factor, but he still stayed in league for 4 years, and had a solid start to the 2010 season - 21 catches for 259 yards, and 2 TDs through 7 games until he was injured again. He had good size, speed, and skills -- NFL level -- he just was not able to stay healthy and continue his developmental process. But he did have NFL athleticism and skills.

Russell Shepard
Keilland Williams
Trindon Holliday

We just don't do much with scat backs.

LSU is known for recruiting excellent athletes, and favoring a strong running game. You have good position coaching at WR but usu not a prolific QB;

this means NFL scouts will look at the player and ability more than production. BTW you're seeing this with RBs too.

Correct, the QB is completely irrelevant (unless you are looking to draft a QB). You DO understand how the draft works, right? You're not picking up a college offensive system, you're getting a single player. A guy from LSU might have great athleticism, very good coaching but just not have been targeted much. If he's shown he can make some tough catches on poorly thrown passes, so much the better. This goes on the basis that you (the NFL team) have a much better QB than what the WR had seen, and should flourish if given the chance.

Yeah, that's basically what I mean. I think the running game could be improved (especially an increase in explosive plays) if scatback-type players had a larger, more consistent role in the offense. Shepard wasn't necessarily a prototypical scatback, but he had unique ability as a runner to thrive in that type of role.
