NOPD incompetence is intentional. It keeps crime STATS down.

You really think Houston and Nashville have more robberies and violent crimes per capita? Stats indicate they do.

See, this is the kind of shite that can really start to hurt the city.
That organization will probably not want to host a meeting here anytime soon.

a great percentage of crime in the FQ goes unreported. I know 3 ppl who have been mugged in last 3 weeks who didn't bother with calling the cops. Does no good to call them... This keeps the crime rate down significantly.

Losing conventions will hurt more than losing some tourists. Same as losing some high-up NFL/NCAA/NBA official. That happens to an NFL owner, you can just about kiss away any future Super Bowl.

Heard several business leaders say the reason that New Orleans lost the Superbowl and Final Four was because of the crime situation in the French Quarter.

Do you really think Nashville, SF, Orlando, OKC, and Houston are more violent (per capita)?

With property crimes it's even odder. Do you really think Ft Worth, Omaha, and Austin have more property crime?

According to what's been reported into the statistical database, you are twice as likely to get raped in Tulsa or Colorado Springs than in NOLA.

New Orleans doesn't report the crime stats the same way other cities reports them. In fact New Orleans goes out of its way to manipulate the crime stats--if the true stats were made public you would see this city is as dangerous as Baghdad or Juarez.

I work in the FQ. At night. In bars. And I usually drink afterwards. Carrying isn't an option for me. Although, I admit, I've considered packing heat anyway. I stay aware of my surroundings constantly, make direct eye contact, keep my hand in my coat pocket and look like I'm a mean MF'er.

I hope these thugs get their heads blown off.

What time do you normally get out. I work in the service industry down there too. I try to have someone with me, but that isn't always an option. Though the attack in the 1000 block of Gov Nichols proves, that doesn't always help.

I believe it, but do know during the last Super Bowl, we had the Quarter packed with police, from at least 6 different jurisdictions. Gretna, Kenner, levee police... It's the safest I have ever felt in the Quarter.

Not true at all.
The NFL is on a kick with rewarding host cities who build new stadiums, etc.
The french quarter uptick in crime is worrisome, but it's mostly something that got worse in the last month or so.
When N.O. was spiking way up with murder's would have been a time when I could see the NFL not wanting to come here.
The hospitality from the city to the superbowl folks is second to none. Crime was not at all an issue in their decision.

I usually get done around 9:30 or 10. Not super-late, unless I go on a bender. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I told everyone they didn't have anything to worry about because everything was happening at 2 or 3 a.m. Now that's not the case.

I get out usually about 11. Then usually have a couple beers at Harry's Corner. I usually park on Rampart, or the back end of the Quarter. Not sure where you have to walk, but more people in the group can't hurt.
