Heard several business leaders say the reason that New Orleans lost the Superbowl and Final Four was because of the crime situation in the French Quarter.

I knew it was getting bad, but this surprises even me.

My personal brushes with this element of New Orleans "Caw-cha" is the reason I could never move back there.

They need to get this crap under control before it costs the city and state tourism money.

The person stabbed & robbed was the Curator of the Ogden Museum in New Orleans.

One of the reason you will NEVER see me down at that end of Bourbon at night. Too much idiocy, and too many overaged fratboys.

Didn't see this one but armed gang robs group of 7 at gunpoint. Don't worry about traveling in groups even that's dangerous.

Good grief. What happened there? Was it just random violence or was he robbed?

They did a number on his face. He's lucky they didn't kill him right there on the street.

It's definitely better in southern Louisiana than in other parts of the south and the mid west....but the lawyer attack may be evidence that there is a problem at least with a handful of thugs in NOLA.

Its also even more dangerous to be walking down Canal, past the interstate, than walking in the back end of the Quarter.

Investigating the lawyers attack as a hate crime now because they didn't take his gold Rolex, wad of cash, or cell phone. They just attacked him to attack him.

I'm sure it will go unsolved like most of the others. The poor guy barely remembers where it happened.

And even if he did remember you think he wants to come back to New Orleans?

Having grown up in NOLA for 30 years and spending many of my formative years in the Quarter including spending thousands at the bars and restaurants there I can confidently say, frick that shithole until they get the assholes under control. I was thinking about heading down there after the Falcons game, but my wife and I will head back to the Northshore and drink and eat there.

Well the only things that I think would stop the muggings is if everyone carried a gun, or if cops were allowed to profile. So I don't see any end in sight.

I don't plan on getting a gun, I am seriously thinking of getting pepper spray. Say one on the Dicks website, for runners. Wraps around your hand, and doesn't need to be shaken.

Why not a meal in the warehouse district or uptown?

Pepper spray might be fine if you're jogging but considering these savages are attacking in packs, might need the gun

The only times I have really felt that i wasn't safe in nola have been drunken walks at 4 am back to the hotel.

The night of the NBA Allstar game a few years ago was the only time that I didn't feel safe in the FQ, and that was on BS.
