You will be fine. Just use common sense.

The thugs have increased their thugging activity in the last month or so, but considering the number of people in the quarter every night, I'd still feel safe.

I am rarely ever in the quarter after about midnight just because in general, there is way too many trashy people.
Too many other better parts of the city for me to be hanging out in.

Staying at the Marriott Sunday night for the game. Should I avoid any particular areas?

I know the general tips to do, but I haven't been to New Orleans in at least a year and a half. Not trying to die after the Saints game.

The latest attack near Cosimo's on the 1000 block of Governor Nichols scared me the most. It was about 8 people, coming from 3 different directions to attack a group of guys. They are getting bolder.

This.

They don't care about surveillance cameras, which are everywhere but deliver mostly shitty image quality. They don't care about the police because there are about 33% less of them and are less competent on average. The thugs are having a very high success rate and are pressing their advantage.

The wife and I ate at GW Finns last Thursday, while walking back to the garage on Iberville and dauphine, the street kind of had an eerie feeling to it.

We got into our car and drove up dauphine to canal and saw a huge pool of blood and the guys hat in the middle of the street. I've never felt threatened in the FQ before then, but it kind of hit close to home.

I've been to the Quarter three times this week for drinks and dinner. I've never had a problem, but I could whoop a lot of arse if necessary.

I abide by several rules.

Never walk alone.
Go home by dark.
If a guy comes up to you, act like a retard. Criminals feel bad for retards.

Who wants to go with me?

Plus the restaurants aren't crowded at 4pm

Kudos to the OP for attempting to be objective.

It's a pet peeve of mine when NOLA homers instead look for ways to blame the victim. "Oh they got attacked because they weren't aware of their surroundings" as if crossing the street or straight up turning around every time you see a black male is any way to live.

I've never been robbed or attacked but I'm not going to sit here and say it is not a problem.

Like it has been mentioned, be aware of your surroundings at night. Try to stay where there's other people around. If you find yourself alone, walk fast.

shite you can't even get an NOPD to call you back after a mugging

My parents just moved out of the FQ. They had a guy snooping around their property at 6:30 on weekday morning. Even tried to open a window to get in the house, but it was thankfully locked. They had him on surveillance video, so they went down to the station to deliver a copy of it, and the police there couldn't find any record of the report that was done 2 days before. NOPD's incompetence is a huge problem. This guy might've been one of these other thugs who participated in these muggings, but there's no way of knowing.

Not saying there aren't, but its attacks like this that are becoming more common. And what the people in this thread are concerned about. This is near a bar too.(Cosimo's)

armed robbery 1000 block Gov Nichols

I don't see anyone really doing that in this thread. I'm pissed about this shite and hope one of these homies gets shot in the face one night.

I think it's generally the murder threads where alot of us Nola folks get on our high horse about normal people still being safe in the city. It's mostly the same kind of people shooting the same kind of people. Luckily, the murder rate has been trending down quite a bit over the last couple of years.
Slowly this scum has been getting priced out of the city.
And hopefully now that the city has changed the residency requirements saying people living outside the city can join NOPD, things might get a little better with the force. I don't have high hopes of this happening though.

There is absolutely no worthwhile police presence in the quarter. It's unbelievable. My advice: concealed carry.

I thought they changed those requirements right after Katrina. Its been 9 years, and the crime in the Quarter has gotten worse, in just the last few years.

They might have dropped the residency rule temporarily after Katrina, but it wasn't for very long
