Me and two buddies are heading up there tomorrow and going to try and kill some birds. Going in sort of blind, so any input and pointers would be great. We are interested in learning more ab it and tomorrow will be the maiden journey.
If anyone would rather touch base on email, mine is dabrassett at geemail dot com.
Muchos gracias mi amigos

What part of Lacassine? Are you hunting in a boat or pit blind? You want to know about the birds or where to party?

Post doesn't tell us much. You have a lease? Guided hunt? Etc

South of Laccassine? How far? Near 90?

I hunt south of Welsh, near the Lacassine refuge. Just tryin to grasp what your situation is.

We are gonna launch at the north n nature road in lake Arthur and hunt the northern portion of the pool. I'm telling you we are blind to all of the Lacassine Refuge. Hunted and leased near there for years but never fished or hunted or boated on the refuge. This will be the first time and we are solo no guides or experienced folk with us.

Sorry bro. Can't help you there. I'm used to gentlemen's hunts out of pit blinds in rice fields.

If you want to party, hit up Stebb's in Welsh or Red Dogs.

I don't have a regs pamphlet near me, but if you are referring to hunting the area known as "The Lacassine Pool" it is strictly off limits to hunting. The NWR website has all the rules listed out and the huntable areas shown on a map, which the majority are south of the ICWW

Well that's certainly important. I've been researching and looking thru he brochure and all that and it wasn't too clear on which 10k+ acres we could hunt

Be careful my friend. Im not sure I would venture back in there in the total dark without at least having ran a scouting trip in there to see where you need to go and mark it on your phones GPS.

ALso, check the regs, I think your motor has to be out of the water to shoot from the boat (if that's the plan)

1.) You aren't going to hunt out of your boat in Lacassine Refuge. (if you want to kill ducks)

2.) Regardless of where you decide to hunt, it's going to be one of the hardest walks you'll make in the marsh.(water to you ribs and mud to your knees)

3. Bring a pirogue

4. You need to go with someone who has hunted there before or make a scouting trip.

5. You need a big arse Q-beam for running through the lake.

Scouting.... It's your friend.

Scouting on the internet.... normally doesn't work, too many eyes looking at every post on here that would love to add another spot to their list.

I used to fish and hunt Laccassine Refuge. Probably could have been a guide since I knew that refuge very well. But it has been a loooong time ago...I am talking about the late 1960s through the 1970s.

For fishing or hunting, we would use a launch near Holmwood that I don't think exists anymore. For duck hunting, we would motor a long way down the ditch along side the refuge, cross the Intracoastal Canal, cross Lake Misere, and then down a pipeline canal.

Previous poster was right....we did not hunt out of the boat. We stashed the boat off the pipeline canal and walked in. And it was tough walking but I was a lot younger then. Once I stepped into an alligator hole with water up to my neck.

We always did pretty well there. Back then the season was only 30 days and a point system was used to determine the limit. You did not want to kill a mallard hen....they were 90 points. 100 points is all you could kill.

There were not very many hunters using Laccassine back then. It was like we had the place to ourselves.
