I aint disappointed but we need a better or 2nd center to up the offensive production. At least until AD gets over his passiveness. Agree with your description of Asik tho.

3rd in the NBA in scoring...
they don't need offense out of the center position. just play D without fouling and rebound.
It amazes how quickly everyone forgot what it was like to trot out Stiesma and Ajinca on a nightly basis and get destroyed inside.

The trio of Smith, Stiemsma, and Ajinca was an absolute travesty on defense last year. Elite post players like Howard and Z-Bo absolutely manhandled them on the offensive end. It's sad a 7'2" player like Ajinca can get pushed around so much inside and have such poor rebounding skills.
Asik has brought a much needed toughness and rebounding edge that the Pels have lacked outside of AD. They flashed a stat last night of AD's FG % with and without Asik and it was pretty telling. Asik draws the bigger defenders allowing Davis to match up with the likes of Ariza. A big reason AD is as good as he is is a direct result of playing next to Asik.

I haven't watched enough to have an informed opinion but so far I consider him one of the most frustrating guys in the entire league to watch.
He's arguably a bigger retard/spaz than Aminu.

Agreed, at least on the offensive side of the ball. Lacks soft hands, holds the ball too long before going up, doesn't finish strong, and brings the ball back down on putbacks. However we don't need another ball dominant post player. He does exactly what we need him to do: rebound and protect the rim. He rides the bench in the 4th in favor of Anderson but is awesome to have as an option for offense and defense switches late in tight games. Again the Ajinca/Smith/Steamer trio was like an automatic 60+ points in the paint for the opposing team.

He's clearly great at doing exactly what everyone expected him to do.

He does his job. We don't need a center who scores. We need a center who does what he does.
Especially during playoff time if we get there.

I agree, but does a person that doesn't score and just rebounds and defends Dwight Howard and Gasol/Randolph need to make 12-14 million a year?
I don't know what Asik is going to get next year, but i don't want a center that is only there to protect AD to make future AD money. I want him making current AD money.

Yeah they were terrible, but i remember Lopez. I didnt' have a problem with Robin Lopez. I'd rather Lopez over Asik, on top of the fact that he is cheaper, although i don't know what he's going to make next year either.
I'd take either of those two, but don't want them if they are going to make 12+ million a year.
Centers don't win championships, unless they are named Shaq, Olajawon, Duncan. Why pay them like they do? Find a guy that will make 7-9 million that can defend and hustle and i'm satisfied.
If we are going to pay 12+ million for a center, then go get Al Jefferson when he opts out this summer.

Not by much. $8.3 vs. $6.1 this year on the cap.

It will be interesting to see. There are a lot of centers on the market, but you have the looming cap increase. Best case scenario for us is we see what we saw in the SG market the year after we resigned Gordon, and a bunch of similar guys were signed for half the money as Gordon. Keeping Asik at $8-$10 would be great, but I've always been assuming $12.

i think $12 is the number
and honestly thats not an overpay
he's big, he's tough, he rebounds, he's turkish

Houston shot 4-13 at the rim with Omer Asik defending last night. 1-10 (!?!) When AD lurked.

This is the exact reason why I don't mind the offensive ineptitude. I think it will be easier to justify $8-10 mil for a 8/11 Asik than it would be for a 13/11 Asik. He can have his 2 terrible moments on that end of the floor every game if it allows us the extra 2-4 million to add depth.

Look at AD's numbers, then think if he had to play center. Now give Asik a high-5 and say keep playing hard.

I could be wrong, but that seems to be all you are watching.
The Pels were sorely lacking in defensive rebounds last season, and he makes pulling down defensive boards look easy, and he does it consistently.
Do you see how much more stout our defense is when he is in the game, as opposed to when he's not? He is a terrific rim protector, who alters shots near the basket (you can alter shots without actually blocking a shot), and he does it without fouling.
Sometimes, a player doesn't have to score 25 points a game to make an impact. His presence on defense is worth his one or two hiccups a game on offense.

Everyone is ok with Asik because everyone knew what to expect from him. He's the Turkish Greg Ostertag. We needed that based on the other parts on our team. He has done a good job furnishing those skills.

Omer Asik is averaging: 3.8oreb/6.9dreb/10.7treb; 15.4 OREB%/29.4 DREB%/22.3 TRB%; 27.1MPG
Top centers that are offensively inept:
1. DeAndre Jordan: 3.9oreb/9.2dreb/13.0treb; 14.2 OREB%/31.9 DREB%/23.3 TRB%; 33.5MPG
2. Andre Drummond: 4.6oreb/7.8dreb/12.3treb; 15.6 OREB%/28.8 DREB%/22.0 TRB%; 30.3MPG
3. Tyson Chandler: 4.1oreb/7.4dreb/11.5treb; 15.9 OREB%/28.1 DREB%/22.0 TRB%; 29.7MPG
4. Andrew Bogut: 2.4oreb/6.9dreb/9.3treb; 10.9 OREB%/27.4 DREB%/19.6 TRB%; 25.2MPG
So really, for what Omer Asik is, compared to 4 other "big name/defensive" centers that are in his tier, he's actually right there with them. Of those 5, he's 2nd or 3rd in rebounding category. Solid interior defender as well, good with me.

That's like saying Usain Bolt has decent 100 times but what should you expect with his athleticism? The dude is 7 feet, huge, and has a 9'4" standing reach. There aren't many people in the world like that.
