Also once on a flight from Cancun to Houston our wing barely grazed the ground upon landing. It was pretty scary. As we're deboarding we see the pilot is a female and some redneck yells "no wonder we couldn't park, the pilots a woman!"

All the men tried to hold in laughter but it was impossible. I bursted.

Turbulance and crashing are two way different things and he should be holding on an not trying to film shite. He could have easily lost his phone and that hit someone in the head and killed them.

This. The plane itself won't hurt/kill you from turbulence...other people not buckled down or holding on will hurt themselves or others.

Some folks just need to get in a Cessna 152 with a pilot, have him/her stall it, then recover after a bit then you will feel like flying in a 737 is like being in a building.

BTW- Turbulence has not caused a crash of a commercial aircraft since 1966 and planes now are far stronger than they were then

Chill the next time the flight gets bumpy.

turbulence is scary but not really dangerous. Except to people not buckled up.

I've flown in a dual prop 6 seater charter through a small thunderstorm from Charlottesville to Knoxville. It was scary but seeing the pilot being calm made me calm.

Can't see pilots on commercial jets so the unknown can be kind of scary.

ETA:

It was scarier watching Kelly Washington torch our secondary for 250 yards receiving

That's great and all but it is not like a big sign pops up saying don't worry folks, this is turbulence not crashing.

I usually look at the flight attendants and judge their reaction.

Bingo.... For me at least.. I personally hate flying, my greatest fear even though I understand all the stats. Nothing soothes me more than when a calm pilot speaks on the intercom after or during some weird shite

I flew a Typhoon somewhere over the Philippines once. I am sure this was scary, but it does not look as awful as I was expecting. The screaming definitely doesn't help.

In '99 we hit really bad turbulence over the Fairweather Range in S.E. Ak. The plane diverted from it's route twice and I heard the captain yelling at the FA. She came out white as a sheet and strapped herself in. I was legitimately scared for about 15 minutes.

I was on a flight from Puerto Vallarta to Seattle back in 2000 that suffered catastrophic loss of pitch control due to the horizontal stabilizer falling apart in flight. That was a hell of a plunge.

Needless to say, I'm posting from Heaven.

This is the flight TIEF is referring to
LINK

They had to taxi by another wreck to take off
A US Navy A4 during the search experienced the same turbulence, experienced an estimated 12 g if I remember right and the airframe was fubar'ed beyond repair

Not clicking that link. I freaking hate to fly. Would never set foot on a plane again if I could get away with it.

If you stay in your seat with your seat belt on, you will be fine.

Had an engine go out mid flight on Christmas eve from Barbados to Miami. That pilot landed the plane in less than 10 minutes in Puerto Rico. AA got us on a new flight and made it back before Christmas. Craziest day ever.

It makes me feel better that a plane can take that kind of abuse with no issues.
