What was the thought process when they selected tonight's game?

"frick it, they'll watch it."

It was pretty much a given both the Jags & Titans would be horrible going into the year and yet they circled this game as something that should be featured in prime time?

But I guess this guy is right

It's inexcusable that this matchup was selected for Week 16. Someone deserves to be fired.

as bad as the ratings were, I'm curious if they are going to continue with Thursday games on network TV

Easy,

Everyone has to play a Thursday night game. So when selecting two bad teams, match them up together, so it may be a good game instead of a blowout.

Also it's Christmas party time, so many will be too sauced to figure out its really the Jags and Titans.

Nashville & Jax might actually pull a good tv viewership. Both respective fansbases finally have a real reason to buy Chex Mix, beer, invite friends over & cheer their heads off.

For their team to lose.

This shouldn't be a week 16 game with neither team poised preseason to be worth a shite.

The timing is the horrible error, not the match up.

That partially explains it, but I stand by my statement. A trained monkey could have selected a better matchup here, particularly in Week 16.

Thursday night is miserable. I don't look forward to it all and hate when the Saints play on Thursday. Keep it for opening night and Thanksgiving.

I'd rather 2 crappy teams play on Thursday night than 2 good teams. Save the games that matter for Sunday/Monday.

Maybe they put the shitty teams (or teams they thought would be shitty) on Thursday in weeks 15 and 16 so that the teams fighting for a playoff spot wouldn't have to play on a short week and so they could have a higher viewership on Sunday and Monday.

ETA: People would find a way to bitch either way. A team in playoff contention? "WTF, the NFL screwed us by giving us a short week." A team out of playoff contention? "WTF, no one wants to watch this shite."

They thought Fox, CBS ,NBC and ESPN didn't want this game anyways, so lets make it Thursday night game of the week, the fatty Americans will watch anything NFL.

can't take one away from the networks or they'll raise a stink and risk the long term value of your product (in terms of what they'll pay for it)...so let's make it a divisional game, so we can play that up and fool some people, we'll also make it 2 southern teams, because god knows they love football...ooh, titans and the jaguars, perfect. people might remember a time when the titans were good

Meh, I think it's the NFL's way of giving the smaller market teams national TV. I don't think they five much of a shite about the quality.

Actually, this game was probably a Goddell troll to see what the ratings would be.

couldn't an untrained monkey do just as well? What would the monkey's training involve?
