The only way that the government should be involved is that there is an international crime being committed against the movie studio.
i mean hacking private emails by a foreign government is the definition of "an international crime"

I'm convinced now that the Christmas Present is the absolute worst.

It could be but would Sony corporate really be willing to take a bath on a $20-$30 million movie just to protect a few studio execs?
It's a mundane and unsexy reason but it might be that they are far more worried about lawsuits stemming from the thousands of employees whose private info was released. Trey have already been smacked with three lawsuits this week and there are bound to be more. LINK
Hell, maybe Lil Kim is a Marvel fan with Spider-Man as his top hero and his plan was to frick Sony so hard with lawsuits that they have to sell the rights back to Marvel at a reduced cost just to pay off everyone that comes for a chunk of their arse.

Kim Jong-il would probably be mad because he would have wanted to see it. Kim Jong-il was a huge fan of Hollywood and had the largest movie collection ever known to man.

What's funny here is that some people are saying that freedom of speech is being threatened, etc. Actually it's just the opposite. Studios are exercising their right to not show a movie due to possible backlash. Our government is mum about it and staying out of it. If they encourage or pressure the studio to show the movie, that actually goes against what we believe in freedom of speech. It's a shame that the truth is getting lost in this shuffle and our country is looking like the bad guy here. Just my opinion.

Um no.
Int: Oval Office, night. POTUS behind his desk addressing the world media
POTUS - "blah blah blah political blah. And to Sony, I say to you. You are a private company that operates and exists inside the USA. For that reason you have to freedom to choose to show your film or not to. It is completely up to you. I understand that there have been threats against your company, and the citizens of this country. But please know this, if you would like to show the film, you can. You can, knowing full well, that the full force of the United States military is behind you. To the TERRORISTS who have threatened our great nation. I say to you, firstly, we are coming for you. Your hack/leak of an American companies internal documents are an international crime and we will prosecute to the full extent of the law. Secondly, if anything AT ALL goes wrong as a result or in correlation to the showing of this or any film know that you will be hunted to the far ends of the earth. We will be persistent.......and we will win. If you do not believe this I invite you to watch another American film titled 'Zero Dark Thirty.' Then you may understand how serious I am. Thank You, and God Bless the United States of America."

Here is an article where Clooney talks about HW execs being completely sinless in this situation.
He drafted a letter for the top studio people around Hollywood to sign and none had the balls to do it.

Say what you will about his politics, he is right that this is an extremely worrisome outcome.

On November 24 of this year, Sony Pictures was notified that it was the victim of a cyber attack, the effects of which is the most chilling and devastating of any cyber attack in the history of our country. Personal information including Social Security numbers, email addresses, home addresses, phone numbers and the full texts of emails of tens of thousands of Sony employees was leaked online in an effort to scare and terrorize these workers. The hackers have made both demands and threats. The demand that Sony halt the release of its upcoming comedy The Interview, a satirical film about North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. Their threats vary from personal—you better behave wisely—to threatening physical harm—not only you but your family is in danger. North Korea has not claimed credit for the attack but has praised the act, calling it a righteous deed and promising merciless measures if the film is released. Meanwhile the hackers insist in their statement that what they’ve done so far is only a small part of our further plan. This is not just an attack on Sony. It involves every studio, every network, every business and every individual in this country. That is why we fully support Sony’s decision not to submit to these hackers’ demands. We know that to give in to these criminals now will open the door for any group that would threaten freedom of expression, privacy and personal liberty. We hope these hackers are brought to justice but until they are, we will not stand in fear. We will stand together.
Say what you will about his politics, he is right that this is an extremely worrisome outcome.

This isn't political, everyone views this as an assault on our freedoms and thinks Sony is gutless
I'm shocked Sony hasn't reacted to public opinion because they're getting bent over and railed on every media platform by everybody. Empty suits are always concerned with public opinion.

South Park season ended a week too early. They could make a great episode about this.
