Too bad most fast talking republicans are not as true to their talk as Senator Tom Coburn. Anybody you see him campaigning with you should take a look at. LINK

Love this quote from his final speech

quote:

A decade later, however, in his farewell speech last week, Mr. Coburn made the case for individualism.

“The magic number in the Senate is not 60, the number of senators needed to end debate, and it is not 51, a majority. The most important number in the Senate is one — one senator,” he told several dozen of his colleagues who had come to the floor to hear him speak. “The Senate has a set of rules that gives each individual member the power needed to advance, change or stop legislation.”

He also read his colleagues the oath of office they take, in which they pledge to defend the Constitution. He urged them to pay attention: “Your state isn’t mentioned one time in that oath. Your whole goal is to protect the United States of America, its Constitution and its liberties. It is not to provide benefits to your state.”

This is a guy whose last act in the Senate was an attempt to stall a veterans suicide prevention bill.

Actually his last act was to try to remind his fellow senators of their duty to defend the Constitution of the USA. I appreciate that.

Oh you boys know anybody trying to get money--pork---has it wrapped in a package that sounds good. Do you think more government spending would stop veteran suicides???? If VA spending would end health care and mental health care issues for veterans they would all live to age 120.

Hope he rots in hell. 22 Million for a suicide prevention program for combat vets. That's not much money.

Do you know the bill in question?

How much should one vote for? Should he rot in hell if it was $1 billion or $1?

He holds himself out as a budget hawk but hypocrite is much closer, again 22 million.

I hope he lives a long life in Oklahoma, I can think of no better punishment.

So the only Senator that thinks the VA has the funds to do this suicide prevention program already and is simply not being managed properly you guys want to criticize?

A Doctor who is probably much more versed in what the VA does and needs in it's care facilities you want to criticize instead of thanking for being responsible with our money?

quote:

But Coburn objected because he said the goals of the bill are already funded through programs within the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“I’m going to be objecting to this bill because it actually throws money away,” Coburn said. “We’re the ones to blame for not holding the VA accountable.

“I don’t think this bill is going to do one thing to change what is happening.
