That person you know who only listens to the hits of bands they love and have never really digested an entire album or albums of said band. You bring up other lesser known songs of this band and they have never heard them yet claim to love the band.

Are they considered true fans in your book?

Thoughts and or commentaries encouraged.

If you only like the popular songs you're "mainstream".

If you only like the obscure stuff you're a "music snob" or a "hipster"

People will assign a label regardless- I don't really care what people like or why they like it. It doesn't bother me enough to prompt discussion about it anyway.

My favorite in this vein is when some old head from the 70s/80s talks about how big a Pink Floyd fan they are, and after just a little bit of talking to them you realize they think there really is someone named Pink Floyd that leads the band. I've had that happen several times over the years.

And their two favorite PF songs ? You guessed it, Money & The Wall.

Funny you mention that. I've been listening to a lot of CKY lately. I'd say I'm a fan because I love about 5-6 songs they have. I've tried to digest the rest but couldn't get into it as much. So what am I supposed to tell people? That I only kind of like them?

It's not like following a sports team, I don't see how you can be a "true fan" or a "fake fan" of a group of people playing music. If you like their songs, you're a fan.

Looking down on someone because they don't know as many songs as you do is kinda douchey.

THIS.

Some of us love to delve in more and other are satisfied with just a song or 2.

It's definitely NOT like following a sports team.

Luckily for me I've never encountered that specimen before.

Closest to that I've personally met was in college and I asked someone their favorite PF song, and they said "dark side man". I'm like that's not a song.

You know who the best front-man in the history of rock n roll was? Led Zeppelin

I think Lynard Skynard was an awesome blues guitar player.

Sure. Some people just aren't as into music as others, and that's OK.
