quote:

I hate Republicans. I can’t stand the thought of having to spend the next two years watching Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Ted Cruz, Darrell Issa or any of the legions of other blowhards denying climate change, thwarting immigration reform or championing fetal “personhood.”

This loathing is a relatively recent phenomenon. Back? in the 1970s, I worked for a Republican, Fred Lippitt, the senate minority leader in Rhode Island, and I loved him. He was a brand of Republican now extinct—a “moderate” who was fiscally conservative but progressive about women’s rights, racial justice and environmental preservation. Had he been closer to my age, I could have contemplated marrying someone like Fred. Today, marrying a Republican is unimaginable to me. And I’m? not alone. Back in 1960, only 5 ?percent of Republicans and 4? percent of Democrats said they’d? be “displeased” if their child married someone from the opposite? party. Today? Forty-nine percent ?of Republicans and 33 percent of? Democrats would be pissed.

I refuse to even associate with democrats. I've culled every one of them from my life.

She's married! My condolences to her husband. One must be brain-dead to live with someone like her.

I just don't get the idea of hating a collective group of individuals aside from objectively bad people who are categorized by their abhorrent behavior (terrorists, murders, etc). It is one thing to say it when caught up in a moment, but to take the time to write an article, then actually submit it, reveals a lot about this woman.

She's getting obliterated in the "comments" section below her article.

At least there's that.

I've never liked republicans. I've always thought them to be politically inept.

When I was young I used to think is was because they just weren't good at politics and were the lesser of two evils.

Then I realized the republicans are in on it with the democrats. It's one party with just two different factions like the communist party in China.

Ok is a pretty murky term. I guess it's okay to hate anyone. It's generally not all that profitable, though.

Same goes for lots of people when it comes to lots of other identifiable groups.

I think it's better to acknowledge that fundamentally reasonable and decent people can harbor values that differ from your parents' (which is where 95% of people get their values, in spite of our claims to originality).
