I've never understood the hate for them either. I have a 92 and love the way it shoots. I'm not a huge hand gun aficionado though and only really use it on the range or as a side arm when hunting or in the woods.

yeah it's pretty big and bulky, but I also have big hands and it fits my hands perfectly.

Hate comes from SM's that have never handled an M9 and are passing on the ignorance from their peers or superiors that only have experience with beaten up, poorly maintained M9's and from civilians that are restating the SM's comments because they think it's an authoritative source.

Definitely not a carry piece but I love my 92FS Brigadier.

True. But the problem you mention is unlikely to arise -- if I'm correct in presuming that the OP isn't planning to enlist and bring one with him. I guess the OP will correct me if I'm laboring under a misapprehension.

I'll also bet I've fired more rounds through a 92FS than 98.246% of the people who post here. It's a well made gun, just not particularly well suited for civilian self-defense or CCW.

But I could be wrong.

After all, this is the interwebz, where all opinions are equally valid.

It's not like anyone here is actually going to use a gun for those anyway. Range guns are all this group should be discussing.

Only thing good about the Beretta M9 is that Martin Riggs and John McClane rocked them.

Hans Grubber had better weapon choice, IMHO.

But then again...even McClane opted to use something other than the Beretta.

Shopped for one for a while before deciding I did not have time to ever shoot whatever I would buy.

Great CCW piece. Wish they still made them.

Self defense and concealed carry never even enter my mind when looking at guns.

How that's the first thing in people's minds blows my mind.

You also refer wheel guns to semi autos. Not everyone thinks alike...

Nah, man. People up in here have to navigate the urban warzone daily and are constantly vigilant of violent perpetrators.

Don't move to BR -- the hoodrats might alter your mindset.

Quote from the Linked article: "The Army maintains that the M9 design does not meet the MHS requirement. Soldiers have complained of reliability issues with the M9.

One problem has to do with the M9's slide-mounted safety. During malfunction drills, the shooter often engages the lever-style safety by accident, Army weapons officials say."

Seems like the slide-mounted safety was first debated here over a year ago.

On one of the gun shows recently, a Beretta guy was going through all the changes over the years. He said the slide mounted safety was a request at the time. Seemed odd to me.
