How much time do you have to train/exercise the dog

Probably an hour a day. Some days I'm home all day and can do as much as I want. My wife would be able to do it if I'm not there for some reason. Don't know if this matters but our yard is on the medium-sized to smallish side. We plan on making a move with a bigger yard in a year or two.
Thanks for the link. I'll try it out.

ETA: I got Australian cattle dog followed by Brittany. A lab or golden would be a little big for my wife's taste.

I'm telling you, weenie dogs are straight trolls. They secretly revel in your misfortune. The other night my wife spanked out weenie dog for running into the street, she ran back in the house and hid under the bed. She came out a little while later and peaked around the couch like is everything all good now.

I have a brother/sister pair of Bassadors(Basset Hound/Black Lab mix). These mfers are stupid. So loveable but dumb.

That's not really smart as much as she doesn't want to get spanked again. Btw, who the frick spanks a dachshund?

Chin, your Feral looks a lot like our rescue . I think sometimes rescues are smarter than AKC's.

It certainly isn't my English bulldog

I've seen it suggested that bulldogs are actually very smart. People like to say they're dumb because they don't do a lot of tricks and what not, but others suggest that bulldogs simply decide that they don't want to do anything unless it's worth their while.

I have 2. One is very smart, and the other is a complete dumbass. They are both great dogs.

The problem with Dachshunds, as with all of the hounds, is they are one track minded breeds. They don't care about you and your attempts to teach tricks, and house training.

They do what they want, and if it is smelling, hearing or seeing prey, they're as good as gone.

True story: The dumb dachshund (in my avatar) brought a medium sized possum in the doggie door one night (it was the same size as the dog). Talk about a surprise. The possum was playing dead. I grabbed both dogs and pitched them in the bathroom and closed the door. Turned around, and there's a possum hissing at me and baring its teeth. I trapped it in a clothes hamper and flung it over the fence.

Put me down for German Shepherd's as well. Although there may be a smarter breed, the Shepherd ranks in the top 3 of all categories.

I have heard poodles, collies and shepherd - I've owned golden retrievers and Chesapeake bay retriever that bark when the doorbell rings on the tv - but that's ok. Great dogs always trying to please.

I have a Standard Poodle that's dumber than a sack of hammers.

I have a Golden Retriever that is brilliant.
