Anyone that thinks the current state of the oil market "will put the US shale business out of the market" has lost their mind. Slow it down? Absolutely.

There is oil down there and lots of it, which means there is money down there and lots of it. The boys will figure out a way to get it out. The break even prices was $140/bbl, then $125, then $90, then $75, then $60.

All this will do is make the process more cost efficient and in time, the Saudis will STILL lose their golden tit.

I'd put my money on the big oil majors to continue innovating, but this certainly isn't some conspiratorial event to thwart Putin. Exxon would love to keep Putin in office if it meant a better bottom line.

The Russian sanctions actually put Exxon in a tough place. Their first well in the new area of the Russian arctic apparently made a huge discovery right before drilling was halted. The US government would not allow them to continue past reaching total depth on the well they were drilling I believe.

I know that, but if you think the failure of the Rosneft deal put Exxon in a place to attempt to oust Putin or screw with Russia, there is little discussion to be had.

Most on this board thought he played the better hand. Not so many will be willing to admit they were wrong in their Putin worship. Kudos to you for that.

Conservatives got a kick out of Putin bitch-slappin' the wishy-washy, political Obama, in Syria. Of course, we know that Putin is a thug. He pushed too far in the Ukraine, and deserves what he gets.

Is it not Saudi Arabia that is really making a difference in the Oil dynamic...in reaction to Putin's support of Iran? The Saudi rulers really have a lot at stake if Iran goes nuke, and the Mullahs begin to move.

Didn't Russia sign a big deal with China? Where is that going relative to the Russian economy; on hold until some sort of transport infrastructure is in place? Money changing hands?

All this aside...it would be hard as hell for me to have to choose between Putin...and Obama as a leader. Authoritarian Nationalist...vs. the Authoritarian World Socialist. Like picking between and Ebola outbreak or and EMP attack!

There was an interesting article a few months back on the relationship between Putin and Rex Tillerson. Exxon will do what is best for its bottom line like any good corporation would obviously, just like the Saudis and their decision not to cede market share.

Funny how the mood on this board has changed. I recall all the "Putin gives zero fricks" comments, and about Putin in general schooling Obama.

My how things have changed.

There will be a lot of claiming, "I knew Putin was a frick up all along" by some of those who loved the guy earlier this year.

Which speaks way more to your Obama Derangement Syndrome than anything else.

Look at the Obama fanboys show up to claim a victory based on nothing Obama did. If Obama had his way, we would all be running solar, no new oil would have been produced here and the Saudis would have no reason to crash the oil price and therefore, the Russians.

If you don't think Barry pressured the Saudis to not cut production, I've got some property to sell you.

It's a win/win for Barry. Makes fracking not profitable (further pushing his prog agenda) and bankrupts Russia, Venezuela, and Iran.

What will you say if by 2016 Russia is a total mess and breaking up (including the states they took over), ISIS is out of Iraq without major US troop deployments, Unemployment is sub 5%, and we run a surplus instead of a deficit? Also: Gitmo closed and Ebola gone from West Africa in large part from US Military aid.

Would you consider Obama to be one of the best Presidents ever?

What if he threw in a vote to legalize marijuana?

We have all watched Obama for 6 years now. If you haven't figured out that he is a narcissistic, pathological liar who is only concerned about what helps him politically, then you're blinded by your love of the Democratic party.

None of you wanted to address the substance of my post? The oil production point?

And not because they are trying to jam Russia, but because they want poorly leveraged fracking in the US out of business.

So, in essence, private business through shale oil in America has destabilized Putin's government, once again proving that a free market is far more effective a vehicle of change than diplomacy.

I wouldnt assume its all about fracking. I think a big chunk of that is pressure on Iran, and Russia is a nice side effect.

I see very little that Obama has done to limit oil production. The XL Pipeline never made it past the Senate to my knowledge. He opened the East Coast waters to surveying. He has actually been very friendly on some of the smaller issues.
