Lol. You guys won the ship and you're complaining about the documentary?
Well for example:
1. The students love the current president. They make her seem like the football team/school are against her and they just aren't
2. The football players at the U are not closer through generations. Hell they only have like 2 generations
3. In regards to the OSU/Miami game, I'm not surprised how they portrayed it but there are pictures from before the replay showing the beginning of the play and there is PI/Holding. Additionally, people say don't blame the refs, and when Miami has 1st and goal in the 2nd OT at the 2 they couldn't punch it in. A "dynasty" doesn't fail from 1st and goal at the 2

The first 30 for 30 "The U" was horrendous. It was a virtual cartoon.
This one was done much better. But I love how the U wins every fight they were ever in according to these documentaries. I bet if you ask some Gator players, their recounting of the Bourbon Street Brawl would be much different.

I always hate the U because of the 1983 screw job by the polls as AU was the 83 champ.
However they are a damn good story from '83 through Shapiro. Those mid-late 80s Miami teams were the best dynasty in college history. When the got pissed no one could even compete with them. The Texas cotton bowl was beyond ridiculous. They may have been the best team in the country from 1985-1990 every damn year. Then they were the best from 2000-2002 and should have 3 peated.
Tearing down the Orange Bowl may have finally fricked them though. That place was special and part of the draw to recruits. They could have put the money into upgrading it but the Marlins destroyed it.
Playing at Sunlife is BS for the U. 30 miles away and a 2 hour drive in heavy traffic at times. Miami is a relatively small private school. They have a top notch medical and law school, are verytough to get into and super expensive. They will always have a small alumni base and need the community to support them. They have to win big for that and playing way north awayfrom Miami and the Gables doesn't attrack the kids or fans.

Was it really possible to renovate? People used to be scared that the entire place was going to fall in on the next huge game

You make a good point. I don't really know about the feasibility of that. The place would literally shake when it got really loud and those bleachers in the end zone felt on the verge of collapse when it started rocking.
So I dunno. May have been beyond saving.

So, was it worth a watch?
Terribly boring, no substance of interest at all going from the start of the Butch era up to when I stopped watching, right around the start of the title season.

Just watched the entire thing. 11 years later, I still enjoy the Miami tears.

They could've easily won 11 titles during that period.
83: AP/Coaches.
85: #3 Oklahoma beat #1 Penn State in the Orange. #2 Miami would've won the title (having beaten Oklahoma in Norman), but they lost the Sugar to Tennessee.
86: #1 Miami pulled a colossal chokejob against #2 Penn State in the Fiesta.
87: AP/Coaches.
88: Lost 30-31 to Notre Dame in South Bend because of the refs. Finished #2 with that being their only loss.
89: AP/Coaches.
91: AP.
92: #1 and lost to Alabama in the Sugar.
00: Left out of the title game in favor of Florida State despite beating the Seminoles. Finished #2.
01: BCS.
02: Penalty in ot.

Didnt know the Orange Bowl was replaced with that monstrosity that is Marlins Stadium
Posted on 12/14/14 at 11:53 am to nickp
Marlins park is actually super cool. Maybe the best sports stadium I've seen as far as just being super nice and modern. The Clevelander is especially legit.
It's just that it's the Marlins. I go to several games a yr though.

Shapiro just looks like a douche
May be true. But the players and team loved his arse when they were getting his cash then threw him under the bus. Now trying to act like they were innocent in the whole thing
What a bunch of hypocrites..

Jacory Harris had dinner with Shapiro and was later suspended for 1 game and issued this apology, which you can obviously assume he made at the school's "request":
quote:
''I apologize to the university, president (Donna) Shalala, starting with her first for everything that happened, everything that she had to go through during this time,''
He had to apologize to Shalala over a $140 dinner. Yea, this same Shalala who personally took this $50k check from Nevin Shapiro, the whole thing and the way the players get all the blame and we forget about everyone else is just gross:

With that new Miami Beach Bowl game being played there, could it be feasible for The U to make the place its full-time home?

This is a must for the program.
I doubt that the Marlins will let them tho.
If the Marlins suck then the only attraction is the stadium. New fans will decide to wait for the college football game to enjoy the stadium rather than the crappy Marlins.

It’s hard to argue with what that 2001 team was from a talent standpoint. Over the next four NFL drafts from 2002 to 2005, 33 Miami players were drafted including five first-rounders in 2002, four in 2003 and six in 2004. Even so, as you’re watching and listening to Miami lovefest, remember, the 2001 Hurricanes only beat two really good teams – Syracuse, 59-0, and a Nebraska team in the national title that got ripped apart by Colorado in the Big 12 championship. Virginia Tech came way-too-close both in 2001 and 2002 to beating the Hurricanes, and those weren’t tremendous Hokie teams.
The 2002 team went through a relatively soft schedule, and while it was full of talent, wasn’t nearly the all-timer the Hurricane players from that era will tell you it was. The 2001 team beat a slew of good teams, but it missed Colorado and Oregon, two of the killers of that year, and didn’t have to deal with a phenomenal Florida team that was every bit as talented and dealt with a much tougher schedule.
So watch and enjoy. Just
QFT

They could always play in FIU's stadium. 20K is plenty.
