I bet if Miami didn't have the sanctions hanging over them and had a decent program he would have looked harder at them

I watch the 30 for 30 series because it's supposed to be "the real story."

This was just more lies

Maybe. From what I've heard he wanted to get out of Miami and knew he wasn't going to win there. Ever since the Orange Bowl was demolished, a lot of SoFla recruits look elsewhere due to the fact that there is no atmosphere alone at Sun Life and no one attends the games.

As great as Miami's 20-year run was, it could have been even more with a few plays here or there.

- In 1986, Vinny Testaverde throws 5 interceptions and Miami loses only by 4 to Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl.

- They get jobbed in '88 on a fumble call at Notre Dame. It happened on the goal-line and they lose by one. It's their only loss of the season.

- They get screwed over by the BCS in '00. I think they beat that Oklahoma team to win the title if they played.

- The bogus pass interference call in '02 against Ohio State.

That's nine national titles in an 18 year period between 1984 and 2002. Nuts.

Haven't watched the doc yet, but people also don't realize how nasty the '03 team was but Berlin held them back from reaching their potential.

I have to say this and maybe they touched on this in the program...Before the '02 season started, Frank Gore tore his ACL in spring practice and didn't play a snap the whole season. He was orginally named the starter over McGahee and after the injury is when McGahee really took off. I believe he had 28 td's that year and honestly he should have won the Heisman that season.

Watch Gore's true freshman highlights from their '01 championship season. He was better than all of them and would have been the best to ever play at Miami. Even Portis acknowledged this. If they had Gore & McGahee in '02, they might be talking about the '02 team as the greatest ever.

Edit: JJ pointed it out to me but I was referring to Berlin instead of Freeman.

Still think the 95 Cornhuskers team was the best ever in my lifetime. I am 40.

Yes I'm a man!

what's the best team post '01 miami?

'05 texas? '09 bama? '10 auburn? does '04 usc count?

i really dont know what i think about that. you have to be undefeated IMO so that eliminates a bunch of options.

I'd go:

'04 USC
'11 Alabama
'08 Florida
'05 Texas
'11 LSU

I think USC's team in 2004 was the closest to the balanced attack that Miami team had.

I was a fan of this Miami team, but the head-to-head argument doesn't hold water since the lost to Washington, who also had one loss. Notre Dame also lost the head-to-head argument in 1993, when FSU won the national championship. The truth of the matter is that the voters in the AP and Coaches' polls have never shown much consistency when it comes to the "head-to-head rule".

They could also have a few less national titles if FSU could kick field goals and Tom Osborne hadn't gone for two in 1983.

You mean Evangel's Brock Berlin? I remember a lot of hatred from Miami about him wasting all of their offensive talent.

Yes...you're absolutely right. Got them mixed up. He was average and let all of that talent go to waste. My God, Sean Taylor was unreal that season. RIP.

He was unreal in '02 but as a college football fan, I'm really sad that we never had the pleasure to see a (healthy) Gore-McGahee one-two punch. It's scary to think about.

Also, all five of Miami's running backs on the '01 championship team played in the league. Very Impressive.

Miami honestly should have got the death penalty. But it took a more corrupt organization to save them. The NCAA

That being said, I can't blame the players.

And yeah. The PI call was a joke. It was actually a worse call then I remembers.
