Anyone work for a company that requires doctor's notes?

I don't, but I have a family member that does. She recently had one of those days that she was sick, but could probably rest it off at home. Too sick to go into work and expose other people, but not sick enough to go to the doctor.
Anyway, she had to go, pay a doctor's bill to be told to rest and drink fluids. I understand that this sort of policy would deter employees from taking false sick days, but I though this Canadian doctor's letter was interesting.

I love it. I've never had to provide a medical excuse for an absence, but I'd be highly pissed if required. Its a load of shite on the part of the employer.

That looks forged. Tell your family member to just suck it up and go to the doctor next time.

No, but if someone misses work repeatedly for claimed sickness, it is possible to institute this policy.

If you're sick for a day or two we don't require anything, but if you're sick for like 4 days, then you're sick enough to go to the doctor and get a note after you get checked out. I'd rather them not come in sick and get everyone else sick. Basically don't abuse our trust.

I don't necessarily have a problem with it until you come in with a note signed by a world renowned dick wart removal specialist.

You shouldn't require a note for a day or two missed but I don't see an issue if they miss more than two days.

This is how it should be...
My first year out of school, I took a job with a shady company out of desperation. I didn't really know they were shady. They seemed legit and I was just happy to have a job, so I didn't do much research on them.
After a couple of months, I hated my life and was looking for something else. I got an interview on a weekday morning for another company.
Called in that morning at about 7:00am and left a VM for my supervisor that I was feeling under the weather.
Guy gives me a call back around 8:30 saying that I need to bring a note when I come back in the next day. Didn't even ask how I was feeling.
Told him I'd play it by ear and see if I was feeling better by lunch. Went back in after the interview.
Ughhh...I get nightmares just thinking about that place. It sucked something terrible.

Yea but it's people like you why companies do require it. People taking sick days as vacation days.

that is why you shouldn't take sick leave for interviews....
take a personal day if you have an interview.

Well, seeing as they don't let employees take any vacation days until they've worked there for 6 months, I didn't really have a choice.
They knew exactly what they were doing, and I am not about to label what I did as wrong, considering the type of people I was working for.
Basically, my options were tell them I have an interview and get fired, or call in sick.
This company was terrible, and that's not an understatement.

Only if you miss 3 consecutive days and if you're out 3 days it's probably serious enough to go get checked out at the doctor
Of course this doesn't apply to management

Our normal policy is three days or more requires a doctors note.
The exception is between Thanksgiving and New Year's day. During that period, a doctor's note is required for any sick days taken.
It wasn't always that way, but over the last few years quite a few people would use up their normal vacation and then get conveniently sick. It got worse and worse and so now we can't have nice things.

Places that are the kind he is talking about kind of set themselves up for it though.
You have vacation time, but they want notice weeks in advance of it's use.
Oh, and they frown on using it for less than a whole week chunk

I haven't had to have a 'note' since I was in elementary school... but that Canadian response is on point.

I wish they would institute the 2-3 days thing with schools. Not a lot of companies require notes after one day missed, but all the schools do. It's ridiculous. I feel like it steps on my toes as a mom to decide when my child needs to see a doctor. And it also makes getting into the doctor when your child is really sick a nightmare because of all the note seekers.
