Time to shelve that POS F-35...it can't run on warm gas from a truck.

What a piece of shite this money pit is. So, if that is the case, it looks like this plane won't be operating in hot environs. Oh well, and this plane is supposed to be the wonder of wonder planes.

If that's actually the entire problem, why can't they out reefer units on fuel trucks?

Nahh, it's a matter of national defense that the plants located in all those congressional districts stay running full throttle. What are you, some kind of peacenick commie?

What happens in situations where that isn't feasible? Interesting that no planes have ever had that problem...even that bad arse of bad asses SR-71 and it's special fuel had no issues.

What that F-35 is is nothing more than a golden turd.

Well if that's really a problem it seems more feasible than redesigning an entire plane. Do these planes even fuel up in locations where it wouldn't be feasible?

Hey, they can't all be winners.

The F-35 channels its strong thermal loads, accumulated by the powerful avionics and sub-systems on-board, as well as the engine, into its fuel. So really, the fuel works as a giant heat sink

That's actually pretty ingenious. Unfortunately, they didn't think through all the implications.

Once they get their shite figured out it will be pretty sweet and capable. But yes, it's a giant POS. Wish they didn't canx raptor production.

Well, what happens if these planes need to be deployed on short notice to a hot area and don't have cold fuel trucks handy...or to a FOB where none are available. What then? Airlift a bunch in just for this airplane? Nice try, but this 20year development process still ain't worth shite. It's just ridiculous that a plane has to be babied such JUST TO FLY...

Ingenious, yes, but IIRC, this heat sink method is already in use and has been for quite some time.

Damn dude, go make yourself a drink. I have no idea what I'm talking about, just spitballing to make conversation.

I think it's problems arise from all the additional shite they do. Maybe this is all a long con to go to all out drone development

I know they need to push the engineering envelope but the plane has to be usable in all environments also.

Seems like a huge engineering blunder.

If the fuel getting hot on the ground breaks the design they have obviously engineered a much too restrictive operating envelope.

Seems like the best, brightest, and well paid could have done better.

That writer sounds butt hurt. The fuel is the heat sink and there are no failure modes for this outside of supplying hot fuel. This seems like an easy fix. We drive cryogenic fluid around, so what are we talking about here. Don't give it 110 degree F fuel and everything is good.

It's far from a "giant POS." Seriously?

So you say this after all of the hoopla surrounding the oxygen problems that these jets had? I guess these are POS as well, right?

Interesting, Gaston, but a plane that is nothing but problem plagued is just that. How long has this plane been in development and they are just now discovering this? So now the fix is to supply refrigerated fuel trucks? Yeah, that's it...and let's just hope that the trucks don't have a problem...

How is it that the venerable SR-71, who got hotter than any fuel truck ever could, never had a problem with hot fuel?

Using fuel as a heat sink has been around for decades...
