IF you are an experienced deer hunter I would strongly recommend this approach. Put in some time and research public land in the midwest and plan to make a yearly week to ten day hunt with 2-3 of your good hunting buddies. With that kind of money, you could make this trip for several years in a row.

While I understand the attraction to having an outfitter provide a guide and top notch accommodations, there is nothing like doing the work yourself and killing a deer on your own.

Look at Whitetail Heaven Outfitters in Kentucky. Its right in your price range and not a high fence they just have lots of land. Not a guarantee but there are huge deer killed there I follow on facebook and have seen quite a few giants over 180" killed.

I've used Cabelas Outdoor Adventures several times.

The upside is that the hunts are backed by Cabelas. So you have a somewhat lower likelihood of running into a fly by night outfitter and they've probably done some due diligence in checking the outfitter out (licensed, references, etc.). That said, I had a bad experience on an elk hunt back in 2007 that I booked with Cabelas. Cabelas really wasn't very sympathetic and pretty much told me to address it directly with the outfitter. Incidentally, Cabelas did drop the outfitter soon thereafter. My point being, nobody bats a thousand and even Cabelas isn't perfect. You should still check references and ask specifically for unsuccessful hunters that have hunted within the past 12 months.

The downside is that Cabelas takes a cut of the price of the hunt. The outfitter generally doesn't like this so the pricing on the hunts is typically inflated to ensure the outfitter and Cabelas both get their share. If you book a hunt through Cabelas and have a good experience try booking directly through the outfitter the next time around. You may save a good bit of coin doing this.

I would suggest either a hunt in Mexico or a South Texas Brush country hunt. This is going to be my 5th year in row of going to hunt the Brush Country in Mexico and it is an experience that you cannot really describe until you go there. A very target rich environment with hogs, javelinas, coyotes, and deer. I only bow hunt down there as well because hunting with a gun is not a challenge.
