Baked sweet potato seems to be the standard answer. Personally, I think sweet peas would be a good side, as well.

you put the potato in your bowl of gumbo. it doesn't melt in the juice like potato salad. it's fantastic.

A buttered sweet potato is delicious on the side or drop a tad in your bowl of gumbo.

I usually keep my potato salad on the side and just dip each bite in the gumbo.

I'll have to try.

Potato salad or baked sweet potato. Don't know if I'd call em "side" dishes because most people around home put them IN their gumbo.

Gumbo is a dish that I never even consider needing a side dish. I've always had potato salad in the gumbo, so don't consider it a side either.

Agree. My mind is totally blown with this sweet potato. I must live under a rock.

I prefer mine with rice and all I want is the gumbo and cornbread. It's a full meal. Having that meal this evening.

However, I'll serve a salad, the sweet potato or potato salad with it for guests.
