Does Being Left Out Of The Playoff Affect Gary Patterson Re Taking Another Job?

We all know Gary Patterson loves TCU. They have made significant investments in their facilities and his salary, paying him $4M a year. He has been there for years. They are now playing in a major conference.

That being said, if he was coaching somewhere besides a small private school with 8,000 students and produced the same results as this season he would probably be headed to the playoff. You know he is competitive and wants to win it all.

Question: Does this experience of being left out of the playoff affect his mindset regarding any future job offers that he may receive? Is he a little more likely to consider a job at a larger, more football reputable school than he was before this happened?

Seems like Patterson has turned down other opportunities offered him over the years. But yes, because left out of this new play-off format when many expected his TCU team to get a bid could affect his outlook on things.

But he seems to really enjoy TCU & has a good understanding of what it takes to keep that program successful.

He is so classy. The Baylor guy is a sour loser.

He can win big in TCU. Big 12 need to have a Champ game.

Also texas and OU need to be good. he will get in after beat OU and texas next time.

I don't think TCU was in the Big12 in '10.

TCU wouldn't have played in the Big 12 championship game this season.

I'm really surprised no one has been able to pry him away. But, not all coaches are chasing the next stop, he must be one of them.

Patterson not leaving TCU until Kansas State job opens up. Book it!

He played there and that is home.

And their expectations are lower....outside of OU and Texas the rest of the Big 12 really has very little expectations to compete on a national level. Yes, they like being good, but ALL of them would be happy to go 8-4 every year with a bowl win. All you have to do is look at how A&M was so giddy just to be competitive in the SEC.

To answer your question....GP $4m a year to win 8-9 games in that conference vs $4m a year at LSU and NC's are expected.

Lol okay.

Kansas Staten is one of the toughest jobs in the country. Snyder's doing it with walk-ons, JUCOs and excellent coaching. TCU is a much better job.

It's so funny to me when fans constantly overrate the "going home" angle with coaches.

The question seems pointless this year; all of the jobs that might attract Patterson have been filled. He is not going to Michigan.

Don't fool yourself, Patterson is getting a lot more than $4mil a year. People tend to underestimate the oil money at TCU.

I agree that Patterson isn't likely to leave. Why would he? He's in a weak conference. He was one game away from going and possibly being number 1. With the way OU and UT are playing, he has a huge opportunity to make a run in the Big 12. He has a better shot going to the playoffs at TCU than taking a rebuilding job at UM or any job that opens up, even considering what happened this year. TCU has a great opportunity to make some noise in the future now that they are in the Big 12. If I were him, I'd petition to get more members for a championship game before I left. Without a championship game, the Big 12 is going to get left out.
