Beer Growlers

looking to get one for my bro in law for a cheap xmas gift. do most places just let you bring any type in to fill or are there certain restrictions? anything i should be looking for?

You can get a cheap, screw top growler for $4-5. On the opposite end of the spectrum I've seen flip top stoneware growlers for $65-80. Any type of colored glass with a flip top should suffice. As far as regulations are concerned, I was under the impression you can fill any growler you choose.

I've also been curious about this. Is there any restrictions of getting it filled at a bar and taken home sealed for later consumption.

Where do you live? That makes a difference. Also some bars/brewpubs only fill their own growlers.

I don't know he laws there, some posters should. Seen plenty of growlers ship out.
Also, consider metal/aluminum growlers. Less chance of breaking.

If it is Houston, buy one from Growlers in Montrose and might as well fill it up with a good beer as part of the gift.

they have some growlers at growler's off of waugh right now that are signed by the brewmaster of karbach. a lot of cool things in that place.

Check out Amazon. I know Stone growlers can be found there. Would be a good glass option.

H&h has been using some new tops lately that supposedly keep it fresh longer. Not sure I buy it. They are still screw tops though

If you want to spend a little more money, Drink Tanks come with a Keg Cap Option (total cost: a little over 110 bucks). The Keg Cap has a CO2 cartridge and a picnic tap. It will keep your beer fresh longer, like a mini-keg.
