So I was bored and put some basic info into a spreadsheet. Obviously stats can prove/disprove anything, etc., but take this FWIW.

TCU and Baylor are pretty bad and OSU and FSU are better than I would have thought. I took the scores and the CFCC composite rankings of each team's opponents. Any "#X" designation is the time a team was ranked at the time the game was played.

Baylor
10-1 with Average score 49.8-23.9 against average rank opponent of 73.8

Top 5 Wins and current CFCC Rank:
#9 TCU 4
@ #15 Oklahoma 18
@ Texas 41
Oklahoma State 61
Texas Tech* 78

Loss:
@ West Virginia 32

Sagaran SOS rank: 66
Opponents: 56-70, average rank 73.8

Baylor's SOS will rise with KSU this weekend

TCU
10-1 with Average score 46.1-21.9 against average rank opponent of 59.3

Top 5 Wins and current CFCC Rank:
#7 Kansas State 11
#4 Oklahoma 18
Minnesota 31
@ #20 West Virginia 32
@ Texas 41

Loss:
@ #5Baylor 8

Sagaran SOS Rank: 31
Opponents: 67-59, average 59.3 Rank

TCU's opponent ranks will drop with ISU game

Ohio State
11-1 with Average score 44.1-22.9 against average rank opponent of 59.4

Top 5 Wins and current CFCC Rank:
@ #8 Michigan State 10
@ #25 Minnesota 31
Cincinnati 46
@ Maryland 48
Rutgers 52

Loss:
Virginia Tech 56

Sagaran SOS rank: 66
Opponents: 75-66, average rank 59.4

OSU SOS will improve with Wisconsin

Florida State

12-0 with Average score 34.6-22 against average rank opponent of 62.75

Top 5 Wins and current CFCC Rank:
#22 Clemson 21 OT
@ #25 Louisville 24
Florida 34
#5 Notre Dame 35
Boston College 42

Loss:
None

Sagaran SOS Rank: 49
Opponents: 72-70, average 62.75 Rank

FSU SOS will rise with Georgia Tech

HEAD TO HEAD AND COMMON OPPONENTS

Baylor and TCU:

West Virginia
Oklahoma
Kansas
SMU
Texas
Texas Tech
Oklahoma State

TCU 47.1-19.8 w/4 road games
Baylor 43.5-21.4 w/3 road games

Ohio State and TCU:

Game 2 Minnesota @ TCU: 30-7 TCU
Game 10 Ohio State @ Minnesota: 31-24

FSU/Baylor/TCU:
Game 1, FSU vs Oklahoma State (neutral), 37-31 FSU
Game 6, Oklahoma St @ TCU, 42-9 TCU
Game 10, Oklahoma St @ Baylor, 49-28 Baylor

...So I think OSU deserves a little more credit and certainly under no condition should TCU and Baylor both get in.

If take a ratio of point differential/average rank (higher the better) you get:

TCU:.41
OSU:.36
Baylor: .35
FSU: .20

They were at the time. That's the first number.

The second number is the current computer ranking.

Today, Ohio state plays just their second ranked team. Michigan state is the other. Schedule is weak sauce. They will have faced the fewest ranked teams.

PS: who cares where the teams were ranked when Ohio state played them.

TCU will get in ahead of Ohio State.

Ohio State needs FSU to lose.

That's their only chance.

Thanks for the post.

Looking at FSU's schedule I think you certainly have to give credit for at least beating a lot of decent teams and simply not losing.

However, it also underlines what the committee is doing with their rankings that when you couple how much they've struggled with almost every one of those teams with the real lack of even a single highly considered opponent so far.

Until Ga Tech tonight, Home in OT over Clemson is the probably best win and Clemson really doesn't have the most impressive resume themselves in terms of quality wins.
