I remember a topic where someone talked about installing metal fence posts and placing dry concrete in the hole and then adding water to the hole. I searched put couldn't find the topic. Anybody do this before?

Many times. I've even done it (when the water table was high) without adding water at all.
What you need to do is get you a poking stick and jam it around in there to get the water mixed up. Very common thing in South LA

Ive built lotsa fences and always done the ole fashioned mixed way.
But it seems if ya have SUFFICIENT moisture in the soil you can jus drop the readdy mix in the hole
If your doing a wire pasture fence, 10 ft spacing, no need for concrete with metal posts

We usually just pour a little water on top. My uncle would just let the secrete absorb the moisture from the soil.

I built my fence and never mixed any. I just packed the concrete tight around the post and added water when I finished. That was 4 years ago and after several storms it's still standing.

This is what I do. Dry and maybe a bit on top but not always. Depends on how far I've got to lug water.

I hand mix the for the corner posts and posts by any gates and drive the rest with a post driver.

I've done it before with my wooden fence posts. They work great
