Les has shown you don't need to be a in depth x's and o's kinda guy to succeed at LSU. Good organizational and leadership skills combined with being a good recruiter and having charisma for the public is a reciept for success. Frank Wilson has all those attributes. He's served as HC at hs level and as AD (organizational leadership) at the school board level. He's worked at 3 SEC schools.
"But he wasn't a coordinator..." Being a great coordinator doesn't mean you will be successful as the head guy. Charlie Weis, muschamp, even cam cameron were great coordinators who didn't pan out as the head man. Then there are guys with little to no coordinator experiences be successful head men (Jim harbaugh, mike tomlin, art briles). I think Frank can keep the defensive staff and grab a bright offensive mind and get this thing rolling for years to come. He can hire Juluke as rb coach and really lock down the state...recruits and HC around the state would be ecstatic to have a at home guy at the helm of the flagship school football team. He would be the head man so his recruiting pitches would carry even more weight. And at 41 he'll be at his dream job for a long time...20 plus years.
Frank Wilson is the future of LSU football folks...

No thanks, LSU can do better.

People thought the same about Mike Archer in 1987. LSU can do much better, and you don't learn to be a head coach at a place like LSU.

this is a royal stupid thread

Same words said by fans of Texas, UF, Nebraska, Michigan...
Meanwhile Harbaugh and Briles has been Wildly successful despite having to "learn how to be a head coach"

Their first head coaching jobs were at San Diego and Houston respectively, do you think LSU is on par with those schools?

This doesn't seem like Ed Orgeron circa-2005 at all. Go for it

Notre Dame has done well with coaching changes. As have Miami and Michigan.
Oh by the way you never told me how you know Les isn't good with X's and O's.
Another drive by Miles hater.

It's not like we have a coordinator as a coach anyways. We could do much worse than Frank Wilson as far as head coaches go. We could also do much better.
I'd rather see Wilson go have success at a Colorado St or something and then come back a few years down the road after Miles goes out with a bang in 2016.

On the contrary I'm a Les fan. My Frank W idea is meant to keep in place the model he set which has been successful at LSU. For the record I don't want him to leave. I just think LSU fans has this delusional opinion of getting the hottest names there to coach when we've seen in recent years that's not always the case at traditional powers.
And if Les was a x and o wizard would folks be complaining about the o as much as they do? Les is at his best in the CEO role...
