I get what the stats say but Fournette doesnt look faster than gurley....Ive seen Gurley outrun the db's time and time again taking long runs to the house.

Not a knock on Fournette at all he just doesnt look as fast. He also looks very big right now imo so maybe thats why. He looks like hes 240 or more right now.

He has elite speed. The defender that caught him yesterday was running at an angle to a spot .

Why is it a necessity to do nothing here but point out negativity about everything LSU?

At 225lbs, LF would still be as physical as he is now. And still will be trucking people and breaking tackles. It's just his style of running and it's awesome. Do you think at 220-225lbs he would become soft? Because 225lbs is still a big college RB.

At 225lbs he would still be ridiculously physical and break tackles, and would be a little lighter on his feet and have a little bit more burst and speed. It won't change his running style at all.

And I wasn't saying he's faster than Gurley right now or whatever. Just showing that he had faster times in high school track than Gurley. And was 35lbs heavier than Gurley was in high school. Meaning he is plenty fast. No need to worry about that.

Watching a lot of his high school tape, I really thought he would be faster than he's shown. He's a beastly runner but doesn't appear to have the type of speed to take it the distance. Do you think he is as fast as the Georgia running back Gurley (prior to Gurley's injury of course)?

You do realize he was running across the field and actually ran past the DB that caught him right? Also, that DB was fast and had the angle on him. Same thing happened to Jeremy Hill last year against Auburn on his secone long run. I don't think people realize this dude's speed. He has yet to have that one wide open lane where he can take it straight up field to the house.

He's not Jeremy Hill. There were numerous times where SEC DBs could not run him down. We're still waiting for the first time LF out runs a defense. He's a good, but not "all-timer" kind of back. The fanboys will come in soon to disagree, but the next 2-3 years will show that to be the case.

I've had this train of thought all year, but I have to disagree with the last sentence a bit. Yeah, he has run guys over, but there have also been PLENTY times where it seems he has one guy to beat, and that guy wins the battle too often. As far as the speed issue, well...those who disagree can show me how many long runs he has broken for TDs. However, I (like many others) feel like a back needs to get in a rythm to break the long runs. If LF got 20-24 carries every game, I think he'd put up 130-150 yards just about every game. Give him enough carries, and he's going to break more long ones. There can be a huge difference between carrying the ball 15 times and carrying the ball 22 times in a game. And that difference is not simply " multiply his ypc x 7 more carries. It's more like " do that, then add 40 yards" imo.

He's fast but he doesn't have elite speed. Are people so in love with him they can't see that?

Remember Defensive Backs can run also and at times they have the angle to cut off the runner. He will take them to the house do not worry!

Exactly. That DB for A&M was tall, long, fast, already had a running start in the secondary, and took the proper angle. If he was one step late, Fournette was gone.

Fournette is the truth. Even if he didn't make mature any more. He's already there physically. In two years he can take his running and receiving talent to the League.

I'm 44. My favorite LSU running back ever is Dalton Hilliard. His talent was evident in his running style.

But in terms of the best.......its been Jeremy Hill.

Hilliard
Faulk
Adaii

1 every game where he got the ball anywhere 20 times he dominated.
2 every game he would break at least one long run for a touchdown (and the play was usually middle)y
3 he showed up at the big games

Please nobody mention cecil collins:(

I think it was Ridley that didnt have "top end speed" but he did pretty well for himself.

Ridley combine 40 time - 4.66

Hill combine 40 time - 4.66

And when someone said when LF has 1 man to beat, the defender usually wins... I agree it's like that right now. But IMO it's not due to his speed. That defender jusy always seems to trip him up with an shoelace tackle. Hill had amazingly good balance and wouldn't go down on those ankle tackles. And Hill had the benefit of playing on a team with a very good passing attack and didn't have to go agaianst stacked boxes like LF sees each game. LF will get better at this. He's just a freshman and has a damn good chance to break the freshman rushing record at LSU and will do it on less than 200 carries most likely. And considering the talent we have had at RB, that's saying something.

He's going to get better. Think about that. He's an extremely hard worker and has the desire and ambition to be great and he wants to be great. He's nowhere near a finished product yet. Not even close. When he is, he is going to be that special RB everyone thought he could be.

Anyone remember Maurice Clarrett? Guy ran a legit 4.7 and broke off huge runs every single game. Like someone mentioned earlier when talking about Jeremy Hill, it's a lot more about feet and angles in the open field.

Just wait till Fournette gets a lane, no one will catch him.

Yep. Go on youtube, type Samaje Perine. There is a 10 minute video of all his plays of the Kansas game where he broke the record. Guy went untouched on several plays, yet had nowhere near the speed Fournette does.

Fournette's speed is somewhere in that 4.45-4.52 range. Maybe not elite, but at 230 on his thick frame, it is pretty ridiculous. He actually looks bigger than 230. He's probably around 235 this year. I believe his ideal playing weight is somewhere in between 220 and 225.

drop the kick returning too, because it is wearing him down as well.
