Watching these Top 25 teams makes me realize we aren't even that close talent wise.

Maybe if we gave JJ a raise we'd close the gap.

We're close talent wise. We need a coaching staff to put things together on the court

While the top 25 teams are way better than us talent wise, we have some great talent on our team too. We don't have much of a coaching staff.

Do you think teams like Creighton, VCU, SDSU, Miami have a 4 guys who were ranked in the top 75 (one a McDonalds AA) on their roster, along with the leading JUCO scorer? Multiple outlets ranked LSU as having one of the top 10 froncourts in the nation. This group has talent. It's time to start producing results

I agree Alt, maybe some of the kids aren't as talented as they were billed to be, and maybe not talented enough to be Top 25 all things considered, but talented enough to be in the top 45-50? I certainly think so. And that's where we need to be to get in the tournament. That should be our goal and I don't think it unrealistic.

What I'd like to see is progress and improvement. Development of players and a system that fits the strengths we have.

I thought last year we regressed as the year went on, while teams like Georgia improved.

I'm pulling for Johnny but I would really like to see something from he and his staff in addition to recruiting. To this point alot of the same signs as last year. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for more than 5 games.

This..

I'm not saying our guys are void of talent, but today I watched- OSU, MSU-Gonzaga-UNC

The talent gap is significant especially in the backcourt and bench.

I know what you are saying. I watched Georgetown and Wisconsin the other day and was struck by the difference.

But it was more than just talent. They executed the things it does not take talent to execute.

Still, I don't expect to be where they are yet, but I do expec better than what I've seen to this point this year.

I am hoping they'll develop and it is still too early in the season to give up on the Tiger roundballers.

Would like to see them figure out ways to get Robinson more minutes--think he could be a key to the future.

I hope the coaching staff improves as the season goes along as well.

Watched #15 SDSU and Pitt. The kids move without the basketball, play sound team defense, and don't take bad shots. Additionally all 5 starters for both teams looked taller and more athletic than LSU

Mickey, Martin, Gray, Hornsby, Robinson, Quarterman

We are not lacking talent on paper...all of those guys either already have produced on the college level significantly and/or were highly rated coming out of high school.

Do people really think teams in the top 25 like Arkansas, Oklahoma, Miami and those mid majors have MORE talent than that? We just need to get coached better and play much better. For starters, if we cant shoot the three, let's stop taking 16 of them a game. Force your athletic 6'10 240 pounder to GO INSIDE and stop shooting 17 to 22 footers way more so. Let your PG who was dropping 50-60+ in games last year play in his own way instead of forcing him into something he isnt.

Look, we arent going to suddenly become a blue blood and have 10 Top 100 players making up our 10 deep that we rotate. It seems like we're going to continue to have some legit NBA talent, and then some solid college talent and then some college bench talent. It's time to make that formula work like so many other "Top 25 teams" we are watching make it work.

Sure, if we bring in Simmons and let's say we sign another big recruit to go along with Magee transferring in, we're just going to be losing Mickey and if Martin ever gets his head out his arse himself too. We simply won't be able to stockpile talent like a blue blood so we need to learn to make what we have work.

95% of the winning formula in college is recruiting and coaching. Well we have half of that down which is good for a 9-9 sec season year in and year out.

This team is destined for the same record once again.

Hopefully their play will improve. They haven't been very good so far.

And also after Mickey hits a late 3 against Weber St. now he's jac, king 3's too. Gotta get this under control and get these guys to play to their strengths.

Exactly, we have to put these kids in the best position to maximize sthrenghs. We're not to this point.

Top 48. That's about what you need to be to make the tournament. It's CJJ's job to get us the that level. I don't think that's an unrealistic goal, but it's gotta start with cleaning up some of the fundamental issues you address here tbird.

Any team built around Mickey and Martin should just about be a lock to make the tourney.

I don't think expectations for LSU basketball are too high at this point--we should be 20-plus wins and make the tourney most years.

Totally agree timlan.

No. 1 get them to execute defensively. They both have been in the system long enough where they should know how to play team defense better. It was never the small guards, it has always been these two killing us on defense. Time to get that fixed now.

Gray needs to step up, I think he will, but just in case Martin and Mickey need to be removed from the perimiter. We're not going to have consistent success with them jacking perimiter jumpers. Yeah, there will be one or two games where they may drain some jumpers, but that's not a formula for consistent success. CJJ has got to convince them our best chance is them living around the rim. It's on him to get that across along with getting them to play better team defense.

THIS!

LSU very much has the talent, the problem is they don't play as a team. Just a bunch of guys doing random stuff.

This team is not that talented. Problem is the two players who are " talented " don't have a true position. This team needs a small forward really, really bad.

A big problem is that none of our players are complete. They all have glaring weaknesses and opponents are exploiting them.
