Wolverine nation, I think, is way too confident that he will be coaching in Ann Arbor next year. The mods on the rivals site (who are the best in the business when it comes to this stuff) are saying it is 50/50. However, they stress that Harbauhgh changes his mind literally everyday. For example, according to the mods on that site, Harbaugh accepted the UM job twice in 2011 but changed his mind both times.

Because of his tendency to be extremely fickle in decision making, I think it all comes down to timing this time around.

If Harbaugh does come to Michigan, I guarantee he will leave for the NFL again, regardless of the success he has. He will be at UM for max 5 years.

He isn't going back to college
Just hire Les or go after someone like Mullen/Freeze

We'll see. There are people out there that have more information than you, and they are singing a different tune.

I would say it is 30% he goes to Mich, 70% chance he is in NFL (either SF or Chicago).

They're not confident; they're outright delusional.

They are going to have to win a bidding war with at least three NFL teams. Bidding opens at 6 million per year.

Dude is headed to Oakland with total control
I'm sure the information they have was heard by a friend who heard someone talking about who got it from a janitor

That's what I believe too. Have any other coaches been very successful in the NFL then return to college? Well, coaches in their prime. I know John Robinson coached the Rams for a number of years and then went back to college, but anyone else?

I have a feeling there is someone very obvious that i'm missing...

I think the NFL keeps him. Why go to Michigan aside from being an alum?

Maybe after experiencing both he decides he prefers to coach college players?

none of which were VERY successful in the NFL. That's my point, had a successful career and left it to go back to college. I admit I'm probably missing a few, but hell, I've been drinking....

Wasn't Ray Perkins the head coach at Tampa Bay before he went to Alabama?

He was a successful NFL coach, but he had retired in 88 and came back to Stanford in 92 then proceeded to go 17-17-1

I started to mention him in my OP because I thought that he went back to college after the NFL, but I checked his wiki page and it said his last job was with the Niners. I could have swore he went to Stanford for a few years after leaving the Niners though.

He went to Blockbuster Bowl and Stanford was awful when he took over, that's why I asked.

He would be the best example probably but he probably treated his second go round at Stanford as a victory lap/retirement cruise.

He did. 1992-1994 (or 1995) seasons.

My bad, just looked at the wiki page again and I just saw that he was employed by the niners after leaving stanford, didn't look close enough to see that it was in an admin role.

Carry on, ignore me....
