Javonte Smart - 2018 Scotlandville Point Guard

This kid is going to be the top PG in the nation in 2018 and a top 10 player in the nation. My cousin coaches high school ball in Baton Rouge area and told me this kid was the best player on Scotlandville's team during summer league ball between 8th grade and freshman year. My cousin told me about Jacob Evans during his Soph year, before he blew up on the national scene, and is typically on point.
Smart is just a freshman right now but is already 6'2-6'3 and is an extremely polished PG with a very high IQ. He never seems to be in a hurry and is just really smooth and in control. And his reach is a freakish 8'3. Gonna be awesome to see this kid grow the next 4 years.

Javonte Smart, Scotlandville (2018) – If there were an overall MVP award given for the day, it probably would have gone to the 6-foot-3 freshman who has yet to play his first high school basketball game. Smart played point guard for most of the day and had great command of the offense. In his first 5-on-5 game, Smart led his team from almost 20 points down to come back and win 52-47. Smart simply took over in the second half with an array of scoring moves, 3-point shots and acrobatic passes.

Javonte Smart, 6’4, SG/PG, ATR (LA) With a strong buzz surrounding his name, it was a necessity to check out the player crowned by most as Louisiana’s top rising freshman. Dubbed as a shooting guard, he ran point the whole tournament and it was easy to see him developing into a lead guard full time at the next level. Smart showed off outstanding court vision, was able to break down the defense at will, and drilled numerous (albeit inconsistent) three pointers from NBA range. Defensively, he used his size and quick hands to put immense pressure on the ball and created countless turnovers. While Javonte struggled in the championship game against We All Can Go, he left no doubt in our mind that he is one of the ten best players in the nation for the class of

Guessing that was a typo on the 8'3" wingspan? It's good to have top flight talent in Baton Rouge again though.

I remember another Smart from Baton Rouge who was a mad baller-Keith.

From the article:
And wingspan / reach are 2 different things. Wingspan is measured from fingertip to fingertip of outstretched arms. Reach is the measure of how high a player can reach up while standing flat footed.
So when Smart holds his hands up, his fingertips are at 8'3... Impressive. And I think his wingspan is 6'6... Which is damn good, even better considering he's a freshman in high school and 15 years old. And these measurements were at the USA U16s camps and what not. He's already a very high profiled kid.

Several of his testing measurements were impressive as well, namely the 8-foot-3 reach (the words "go-go gadget" were heard often)

He's a top 50 player nationally for sure.

Good catch, very rarely see the term reach used and went with wingspan in my mind while reading

Good to see we still have talent in the state for the future, we went through that really really bad spell for a while there

Next few years are choked full of big-time in state talent. 2016 has Mark Vital, Cam Lard, and Skylar Mays. 2017 has Cedric Russell, Mitchell Robinson, Lamont Berzat, and Keytaon Thompson. 2018 has two potential top 10 players in Smart and Greg Williams. Need to lock up the LA talent.

What' the latest on Mark Vital and Baylor? Have we still not offered?
Seems like the perfect Johnny Jones type recruit, 6'6, 180 athletic

Well, Vital is probably transferring to the qualifying hell hole that is Prime Prep and Scott Drew makes Calipari look clean. Vital is pretty much a freak athlete and that's it. No polish or skill to his game.

So you're saying he's the perfect Johnny Jones player

I've gotten the chance to see Vital quite a few times. He's not a take right now.
