I love "The Newsroom" but one thing I dislike (non political)

All these reporters act like they're gods gift to information and everyone is so lucky they get to listen to them tell us.
They act like "regular people" would be completely lost without them and there is no way anybody besides a reporter can actually tell a story. They also act like they somehow are above everyone, like their jobs and what they know is more important than anyone else's.

An example would be when Don was on the plane during Bin Laden being killed and also Don again getting out of jury duty. But it's not just Don it's all of them

I have a feeling there are plenty of of behind the scenes bigwigs and on air talent that likely DO think that way on every newscast.

Sort of like the correspondents trying to find the most unsettled region from which to broadcast a story just to prove themselves.

welcome to an Aaron Sorkin show. West Wing was the same way, which is the #1 reason I hated the show.

the west wing was about the people in charge of leading the free world. they had a lot more to be proud of, and the writing was substantially less pretentious anyway. the newsroom is hard to watch.

It makes sense. They are trying to portray themselves as "the authority" to get information with. Are you going to listen to a corespondent who's a bit wishy washy.

When I was in school, I met a few journalists including some war correspondents and people who covered crime and stuff. They were all types, left, right, respectful, flipant and crude to an unnerving extreme. But they did all think they were morally superior to everyone around them. The whole ethics thing and they get fierce about that. It's a lot deeper than you'd think and the good ones work very hard to stay in those lines. And then they see the bad ones cheat themselves to the front line and the good ones feel self righteous. That's kind of how I see it.

Most journalists are like that in real life.

The dialogue seems to be getting more outlandish every episode. Nobody in the world talks like that!!!

Bingo. Never enjoyed anything he produced or wrote. All his characters speak as if they spent three hours composing their next line of conversation.

To the OP. Ever see or listen to these talking heads when they're not reading a scripted news report? Many are marginally intellegent with a huge and distorted sense of self value.

I work in television. I can tell you firsthand that anchors are some of the most conceited and egotistical assholes on the planet.

When i was a kid I saw one anchor at a shreveport captains game steal a foul ball from a kid just like the saint guy that took the football last week. It was sickening.

That's my biggest dislike of the show. All the characters are egotistical and smug as hell. It makes them all pretty damn unlikeable. But I will say I think this season is better than the last two as a whole.
