Seems less common. Is it just me?

I want a dog soon and it's going to live in the back yard. But I can only think of a few people I know that have dogs that live outside.

Mine sleeps inside at night, but he's outside the rest of the day. He sleeps in a crate too.

We did this growing up and it seemed pointless. It basically was the same thing as buying a lawn chair or garden statue that you had to feed

mine stays outside

we bring him into the garage if it gets below freezing, but otherwise he stays outside all day

IMO dogs don't want to be inside, as long as you go out and show them attention

Why have a dog if you are just going to keep it in the yard?

It seems like my entire neighborhood does. They go absolutely mad when I walk by with my dog. They also seem to howl at their own shadow.

It is never quiet in my neighborhood.

My dogs hang outside most of the time, I let them in at night (they guard me while I snooze) and when the weather is bad. BUT they are animals and belong outside.

Prepare thy anus for the OT animal lovers who will castigate you for even thinking that a dog should be allowed to lay down on the dirt.

I'm sure it's still common in the suburbs or rural areas.

As a kid we left our dog on the porch all day every day, but she came in at night.

My current dog stays inside if we're gone, but is usually outside if we're home.

Mine stays outside, we used to drag her in when it got real cold, and i mean drag, finally just put an electric blanket in her house.

I know what you mean OP, hell even my old man who's always had dogs outside in a kennel got tender hearted and brought the family lab indoors.

Mine stay outside all the time. It's a dog, not a kid.

Now I'm jealous of a dog.

Oh I have no issue with it. But when we did it growing up, and most people I do just kind of have a dog that hangs out in the backyard. Never really feels like a part of the family

Some dogs get conditioned to prefer the inside

I had a dog that only went out to pee or shite. Otherwise she parked by the easy chair and couldn't be moved with less than an army division.

Sweetest dog ever though

Mine is outside during the day. In the evening he is inside and outside, back and forth. He sleeps at night inside.
