Will the NBA change the playoff format at any point over next 2 years?

The East's awfulness has been going on for a few years, but the West's 9 and 10 seeds would be the 4th and 5th seed in the East right now. If this stands over the next season, do you think that there's any chance that the NBA changes things and lets the playoffs be the top 16 records, regardless of conference?

Nope. You have to think it will swing back over eventually.

I hope not. I like the rivalries in the west.

They would have to change the scheduling format also if they changed the playoff format.

No doubt it will, but the difference between the West and East over the past few years have been WAY more significant than the difference between the NCF and AFC in the NFL (can't compare it to the baseball divisions as I don't follow them). Even if they do swing back to normalcy, allowing the top 16 teams into the playoffs every year doesn't change that. Guarantee division winners a spot, then whatever happens, happens.

They need to shorten the series of the playoffs IMO. Best of 7 for the entire playoffs is ridiculous. They should do 5,5,5,7.

I don't disagree, but that's not the issue at hand.

Shorten the series and cut back on the number of teams.

I agree with you here, but I wish it would change...

Idk the east is REALLY bad.. Maybe Marc Gasol goes to NYC and Durant goes to DC... The West is loaded with young talent, and I don't see the East catching up in the next 5 years

What's the justification? Cut down on travel?

And in terms of East/West, the East has been dogshit for a solid 5 years now. Obviously, with unlimited time, things will even out, but it's been a problem for a while.

People will always struggle to find reasons for our small market hunks to go to big markets. Gasol could very well leave for greener pastures next season, but I don't see anything much greener than Memphis. People will be doing it with AD as long as he is in NOLA. That's ignoring the fact that Mempis can offer him more than anyone else.

They need to get rid of conference altogether imo. The disparity between the two has been too large for almost a decade now.

It would improve the playoffs AND improve the draft. 48 win WC teams don't need a lottery pick over a sub .500 EC that snuck into the playoffs.

People have been saying that since Jordan left the Bulls a second time.

The East has been shite overall for at least 15 years now.

I would disagree. With a broad title like

I think anything is fair game.
