I was coming home from north shore and a vehicle went over the side into the lake. Everyone stopping and looking at water to see if they saw someone.

A vehicle went over once again. How many times is this gonna happen before they do something?

They want to raise the tolls to do something about it and people are bitching about it.

This, I heard somewhere that they are trying to figure out how to do a tension barrier similar to what's on the median of I-12 in St. Tammany now.

1st. Get the large gravel trucks off the bridge. They travel at different speeds than the rest of us so it makes dodging around them necessary.

2nd. Get the idiots that insist on cruising the passing lane to get in the right lane. Constantly having to pass on the right isn't how it's supposed to work.

3rd figure out the guard rail situation. Cars SUVs and trucks are higher off the ground than the Southbound bridge was designed for.

I think this is 3 vehicles in a month All on southbound span. In fact I cannot recall a car going over on the Northbound. The difference in guardrails is a problem.

The southbound span's guardrail is 6 to 8 inches lower than the northbound span. Also, the southbound span bounces the vehicle more than the northbound span. That is a perfect storm coming together with people that treat it like a NASCAR track.

The ~60 year old guardrail design on the SB bridge is a problem, especially when combined with modern SUVs and trucks having high CGs. The REAL root cause of the majority of these "overboard" accidents is probably more closely related to speeding, tailgating, and driver inattention. Then you've got your assholes who pass in the right lane to save 20 or 30 seconds on a 20(+) minute trip.

Here is what I encounter every time I drive the bridge.

I put my CC on 70. I am passing someone, I am in the left lane. Some idiot comes up behind me at 75. I get over to the right to let him pass. About that time we start getting close to a crossover so idiot passing me slows down to 60-65 staying on side of me, jamming me behind another slower car in the right lane and then now 3 more cars are passing me. About 10 minutes later I come up behind the first idiot who is now going 60 because they are talking on their phone or texting. I pass them and we repeat the same thing sequence all the way across the damn bridge.

Aren't something like 4 of the longest 10 US bridges located in southeast louisiana?

Bingo. I can't keep count of the dumbasses texting when I pass them or they pass me during one 23 mile commute.

They need to add 1 lane to the bridge on each span, then go higher with the guardrails on each span. I don't give a shite if it costs me $10 a trip for the next 30 years to do this. I try my damnest not to ever go across the lake in my personal time as it is.

My only problem with them doing something is they'll likely over compensate... The drive can already be monotonous but I'd rather not be looking at concrete for 24 miles.

Keeping slower traffic to right would make the bridge much safer and not much you can do about people falling asleep on that bridge. Instead of going in the lake they'll just take out a couple of other cars...
