First it is Shepard. Sheppard played linebacker.
But I had always felt Jordan at his best was better than Lee at his best. Both guys were just way too inconsistent. I'm not talking about just as a passer but Jordan's ability to pass and run at times was good and a lot of times not so good. The guy also was very physical and could take a licking. Shepard would have been broken in half with the hits I've seen lee, Jordan and most recently Mett took.

Well, Prescott seems pretty good. Of course, I'm almost positive that he'd be riding the pines on third string right now if he'd signed with LSU.

Well Harris isn't much bigger than *Shepard was? How do you think he will fair when he keeps taking hits?
I hope the best for Harris though I just don't see Jennings doing it for us. Of course he starts and plays majority of game.

To Miles thinking about players he sees OL, if not OL, he sees RB. If not either, they don't play. Jennings excelled at the mono a mono plays in practice and Miles loves that stuff.

The season you cite JJ's stats from like he had a good year was the year he took a gazillion sacks and the offense was pretty awful if memory serves. And the other poster was right, AJ makes JJ look like a Heisman contender.

I would just like to have one QB that would not stare down the primary receiver. Mett did a good job of not staring a receiver down last year but that has been it for like 6 years. I mean playing defense against this offense must be easy in the SEC. we run 80% of the time,most seasons, then when we pass our QB is staring down the primary WR almost every time

Yes the offense was bad. The main reason for that, was that God awful offensive line. If you add up all RB yards (Shepard included) they only hit 1503 yards and 14 TDs on 305 carries. For reference, Ridley and Ford ALONE, had 1415 yards and 18 TDs on 294 carries, the very next year, with a horrid passing game. For even more reference Hill ALONE, had 1401 yards and 16 TDs 203 on carries just last year.
So i consider what he did even better when you add on that fact.

If the QB can throw as well as a pocket passer and has the ability to make something happen when shite hits the fan, then you'll immediately tell me you'll take that option

why did you put Lee in with the so called good group? Your division makes no sense. How is Lee like the others in YOUR GROUPING?

Russell and Flynn, while maybe not truly dual threats, were still a ton more mobile than Mett.
People forget that.
They both ended up with positive yards rushing career stats, so while they may not have been option QBs, they had some mobility. They could prolong plays.
But also how many pure pocket passers have come out of Louisiana in Miles tenure?
He goes after the best he can get, and really pickings are slim in our main source of players.

OK, so we passed on Johnny Football and Dak Prescott...our coaches did not want them as QBs.
Then, Russell Shepard...
Shepard was considered the top quarterback of the high school class of 2009 by both Rivals.com[2] and Scout.com[3] before converting to wide receiver upon arriving at LSU.
..how much confidence do we have in our coaches judgement of QBs.

NO but its a lot harder to go grab a good QB from Texas away from the Texas schools, or grab one from California away from the Cali schools.
when maybe 5 QBs in the top 30 turn out to have actually decent careers per year, and 2-3 of them are from California, you can't expect to get one that can come in and start as a sophomore or freshmen.
Alabama has had QB success because they haven't played anyone younger than a RS Sophomore since John Parker Wilson under Shula
