Even in a loss, we saw some good things yesterday. I think Martin finally got the message, GO TO THE BASKET!
We have to find a way to guard the 3-pt line. We still struggle to get through screens (on ball and off ball). Like last year, we give up too many open looks behind the line. On offense, we have to be more efficient shooting from behind the arc.
Lastly, this team should NEVER give up offensive rebounds on missed free throws, that is hard to watch.
All in all, the loss hurt, but like someone else said, its not like losing at home to RI last year.

Put Martin down low where he belongs, he will play a lot better
No...he does NOT belong there. Martin is a 3. We struggle because we don't have a big man down low. Martin has never been a back to the basket type of player in his entire life. Never has been and never will be. That would be doing everyone a disservice for him to be down there. He needs to take less 3's, yes. But he needs to be on the perimeter taking people off the dribble. He does NOT need to be down low.
I feel like I have this conversation on a routine basis. What makes people think Martin would be good with his back to the basket? It's a completely different game on the block

with our recruiting picking up we are going to be forced to run simple schemes. That's why I'd simply press sporadically throughout games.
One-& Done types aren't going to stick around long enough to play intelligently in the confines of an offense. They don't feel as if their stats are going to come to them and they need em to be one-and-done lol.
Seriously, execution is not optimal with freshmen and sophmores.
THIS IS WHY THE SEC sucks.
Only a couple of programs get enough of the really good players who can compete right off the bat. And the SEC has only two of them.
The other teams are athletic, but dont have these things called UPPERCLASSMEN

run some set plays.
I don't care much about set plays.
The five guys getting the most minutes need to be able to play together with a sense of where they all excel and utilize spacing to work inside out to get good shots. I think this group is better shooters than their shooting percentage but they have horrible shot selection a lot of the time.
If quarterman could be relied on to hit a corner 3 it would help immensely with the offense and getting martin and mickey more room to work inside.
To me this team would be at its best if martin was able to facilitate the offense from the elbow where he is an absolute monster with the ability to shoot and drive on just about anyone.

Either way, I'm tired of seeing a 6-10 player settle for jump shots (especially fade away jump shots). He needs to get the ball in the paint, regardless of whether he catches it with his back to the basket or if he takes people off the dribble.

Yes, but I am not a big fan of the 1-4 high set to start the offense.

Why do a lot of the basketball fans continue to put unrealistic expectations on this team? The idea that this team is suppose to make the big dance is crazy. They are obviously young and it is going to take time for them to learn to play together. A realistic expectation would be a NIT birth this season and big dance birth next year.

Need to win the rest of our ooc. ODU isn't nearly as bad of a loss as Rhode island last year
yes because this OOC schedule leaves even less margin for error than last year. At least last year, we had UMASS, St. Joseph and Memphis. This year's OOC helps us little if any. So while this loss is much better than RI last year, not alot of opportunities to make it up and that's what will define our RPI and other matrix that define our post-season resume.
Way too early for panic, but reason for legitimate concern.

Well because Micky and Martin are going to leave for the draft after this year. They are young and inexperienced playing together. However, talent wise they have enough. I'm not discouraged about last night, we still have a long season in front of us

We should definitely beat Weber State. If we lose today it'll be very...very bad

Unrealistic for us to make a 64 team field??
Look, I have a concern about our depth; Unless someone gets hurt, JJ should be able to put us in an aggressive scheme that enables us to be pretty damn close.
Regardless of that, this crew will still have to do their part. Cause the way our team is configured... if the two big boys choose not to do the right thing, they cannot be benched while another two step in and win games.
In this case, JJ and both of our budding draftees must all do what is right

Because it's all relative guttata. I think alot of folks are judging teams worthiness by the same standard they did 8-10 years ago and that's just IMHO is flawed.
This collection of players we have.... in 2006, no question...no shot at making the dance. But in the landscape of today's game, this collection of players at the end of the year could IMHO very reasonably be among the 45-50 best teams in the country, and that's in reality all it takes it would take. Basically being an Indy Bow football level team.
What we need though is to maximize our assets. I don't think we did that last year, in fact I think we underachieved. This year is young, but I dont think it's ridiculous at all to expect we could make the tournament in this watered-down ero of college hoops
I saw a few teams in the dance last year (excluding of course the smaller automatics), that wer were absolutely as good as.
