Installing new garbage disposal: power source issue.

Old one had a plug attachment that went to the outlet under the sink which was controlled by a switch on the backsplash.
New one doesn't have a built in plug attachment but the hot/neutral/ground wires to connect to a switch.
Can I buy a plug to connect to the wires to run to the outlet? Or am I going to have to call an electrician to run a new wire directly to the switch?

You should be able to get a cord adapter at Lowes that easily splices into the existing wiring with tape.
Do the instructions not show this as an option?

Well, it's a big job. You've got to dismantle the latch hasp from the
auxiliary drainage line.

Yes. I had the same issue a few months ago. You can actually use the same chord...takes time and patience but you disconnect the chord front the old one and wire it to the new one. You may need some wire nuts as one of my old ones was fused and had to be ripped off.

If the cord is long enough you can just add a male plug to the end of cord. Just a few bucks at the hardware store.

I got rid of mine and just put a pipe there. I like it much better.

You should be able to recycle the plug from old one if not you can grab a new one from home depot. Connect the hot neutral and ground from the appliance to the plug wire. No electrician needed.

Don't know what you want. Pretty simple deal.

Assuming it's a short wire, right?
If you want to avoid a junction box, just buy two male and one female plugs and a short. Strand of wire. Put the female plug coming out of the disposal and mark your short strand a double male plug. Problem solved for less than $10.

You can use the same plug..just unwire it from the old and wire it to the new. I did this and I'm a dumbass.

Instructions show directly connecting to switch. Mine has the outlet that's connected to the switch.
I figured I could buy a cord with an "open" end that's already spliced and a male end.
I can connect the spliced end to the disposal fine, just wanted to make sure they made this type of cord.

I cut the old plug and spliced it tonight but the hot and neutral wires weren't marked. Tried testing them with my voltage tester and got a mini "pop" with a little blue flash. Didn't want to go any further with that route

Have you tried using the same chord from the old one?

That is the way to go but to meet code the connection needs to be inside the body of the disposal or in an enclosed UL box.

The connection will be inside the body of the disposal. I'll head to Lowes in the morning.

I installed my own but it was a plug in, sorry.

I'd be long done if it was a plug in.

Mine was the same way
...I still used the chord from the old one. You can disconnect and rewire it. It is onside the body of the disposal. Seems weird but it works.
