How can you say that you're knowledge base is connected to your intelligence? I mean the definition of intelligence is: "the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills". Therefore, it would seem to me that if someone from Siberia was asked to survive, then he would have to apply the knowledge and skills that he has acquired.

All of the quoting and arguing, seems a lot of effort for really no gain at all.

but your standard isn't very effective because it's applying a very narrow knowledge base that basically rejects what society has done and is. we lost that knowledge base b/c we don't devote our resources that often to survival, b/c of the excess calories given to society via agriculture. we use those excess calories to do things like develop (our minds and knowledge bases)

funny enough the establishment of societies and stores of calories led to a change in conflict between humans, via war, which has led to possibly the vein of our biggest area leading to human development. studying/developing war, politics, and human interactions to deal with these conflicts has led to our biggest advances as a species...which has led to an increase in our intelligence over time

So, I have noticed from years on the OT that people on the internet are about 95% d-bags. Why? Do you think it is funny to ruin people's lives? Laugh about a dead pet? Kid with cancer, giggle?

What makes otherwise decent people be complete sociopaths on the WWW? Anonymity? All of a sudden you are a badass? I don't get the tendency to be cruel? I am trying to understand the mentality behind it.
Kindness for others is weak? Everyday I see people on here degrade others. Why? Debate is healthy. Tearing people down is just bullying. Sorry, I like this site, but sometimes I wonder. I feel like if I met these people face to face, they wouldn't be so cruel.

It's cause you get to say the shite that runs through your mind in a real life situation that you aren't allowed to say.

Because most people (men) don't take shite on a message board seriously while other people (women / pussies) think that the world has to reflect their personal idea of decency and decorum. The second you stop taking this stuff so seriously is when you can see the humor in it.

When it comes to very serious stuff this site tends to be more tender hearted.
Prayers are sent by the people who believe in it, advice is given, people do care.

That said, if you're looking to the OT for a shoulder to cry on, you've come to the wrong place. Call a real friend or a family member. Or go buy a drink at cheers, where everyone knows your name.

Nah. The internet is the vehicle used for people to show their true inner psyches with no true social repercussions.

The internet's mask of anonymity actually allows us to take our real socially forged masks off.

If you want to know what our public culture will look like in 40 years - read the OT now.

This thread is full of a bunch of deep thoughts about life and society from a bunch of people that never leave their keyboards to experience real life and society.

The internet has always had a vile, dark undercurrent since day 1. Negativity is built into this machine; I don't take things anonymous commenters say as serious.

I don't take anything on here seriously, but I don't make an effort to be mean either. That was my question - why is it humorous to be an e-bully? It allows a darker side of people's persona to come out; one that they wouldn't show in real life and I think that duality is interesting. For people that are saying shite about taking the internet seriously, you are missing the point. Just wondering about the psychology behind internet assholes who may actually be really nice people.

There seems to be lots of young folks here that act like douches and e-bullys.
