To each their own. If I had someone coming into BTR and asked for a good place to eat...The Chimes would never cross my mind. If they wanted to drink beer in the middle of the afternoon on a Tuesday...The Chimes.

I don't recommend Chimes much either. But the OP came off extremely snobby and needy.

My wife ordered chicken and sausage jambalaya at Felixs one time....... had one piece of sausage and no chicken. That was one of the only times ive ever sent something back in a restaurant.

I've only eaten at the Chimes in Covington. The food was awful..every dish. I won't go back. Haven't been in BR.

Why the dig at the wife? She doesn't particularly care for bar food, as he stated. Mine doesn't either so seldom do we go to The Chimes together. It's a personal preference that by no means would make me think his wife is a snob.

It's not crawfish season.

So the portion of food served is directly related to its seasonal availability?

Charge me more for what I expect, or don't offer the dish. As a patron, that's how I expect to be treated.

Dude like LL said earlier they didn't purposely put only 6 crawfish on it. It's scooped out of the pot so you get what you get.

Was it good? What if there were 8 crawfish, or 18 and it tasted like shite?

I did mention in the OP it was spiced nicely. The dish was noticeably deficient of crawfish. That's what prompted her to count it in the first place.

If it had 18 crawfish and tasted like shite I would have posted that. And you would have to find another angle to take a dig at me.

Yeah, telling a waitress it was her job to keep up with the drinks I ordered makes me one rotten SOB.

Nah. They stirred up a roux and made a pot after he ordered and said we don't like him, lets skip the crawfish.

Seriously, I'm absolutely certain they would have brought more if you had quietly and politely asked. Their management is that way. Instead, you opted to let your wife question both your judgement and your manhood and come post on here bitching about how wronged you've been. I'm glad you won't be back, it's often hard to get a place to sit, fewer whiners is always an improvement.

You ordered a small crawfish étouffée not during crawfish season. I don't feel sorry for you at all. What the frick did you expect?

I expected to get a product listed on the menu to be the same in season or not. Charge me more, or don't offer it. That's what I fricking expect.

I don't convince my wife to eat bar food. She eats what she wants, she just has to have items on the menu she'll eat. There is a lot of bar food she just doesn't care to eat. To oily, or fatty, not what she enjoys.

My wife and I both like the Chimes. But some of the things she likes to eat there have disappeared from the menu. Shrimp and grits left the appetizer menu a few months ago, further narrowing our choices.

She went last night knowing that a fish dish wasn't on the specials menu. As a backup, she went for the etoufee. 6 crawfish miraculously positioned themselves near equal distances apart in sauce on top of the rice. You can call it an unlucky scoop, but you weren't there to form a more educated opinion.

So, I'm over myself now. :)

Chimes has great management. I was in no mood to discuss the dish.

I made an observation and stated an expectation. You can call that bitching, but you know as well as I do that restaurants intentionally cut back on portions of food to keep prices down. I'm not happy about that practice at any restaurant. Again, charge me more for what I expect.

I didn't whine at the restaurant. And you know how a disappointing experience can affect your want to try it again.

But I never said I won't be back. If said:
"And, it might be a while before we go back."

So, save me a seat and let me know when you go next time.

No dig. I spent a few years around that joint many years ago. I lived in the house right behind it, now a parking lot, and met my wife while she was waitressing there. We mainly drank, but I was a fan of the turkey croissant and...I can't remember anything else.

I asked about 8 because honestly I don't know what makes up a small portion of étouffée. We have a place in town, Trapanis, that sells it, I'll count the tails the next time my wife gets it.

OP has every right to bitch, I would have sent it back. If you offer something on the menu then don't short change people. And for those who said it wasn't crawfish season, that should have nothing to do with it. Most étouffées I make are out of season and from frozen tails.

Surely you're joking. There is no way you think someone took the time to remove shrimp from her plate. There's no way you think they cooked a special batch of etouffee for her.

All I can think is you're saying they cook the big batch with less shrimp...?

Storytime: had a woman come into work one night when I worked in a restaurant. Asked for red beans withe no sausage. I explained to her that the red beans are scooped from a pot (people tend to forget this and ask for things removed from gumbo or red beans ). She said "okay .. I want no sausage in it". So I realize maybe she thinks we put sausage links and I say "oh I'm sorry.. it is chopped up in the red beans already" and she still says she doesn't care how I have to remove them.. she wants them gone. Woman wanted me to dig in a pot of red beans and remove sausage. I finally just said okay and scooped her a normal scoop and sent her on her way. (To go order)

I understand it is disappointing to get less shrimp ... happened a lot when we got to the bottom of our gumbo pot. But pointing it out politely would have been no big deal.

To tell me I wasn't there just implies you think they did it purposely, which is laughable. You have to actively try to avoid something in a big pot like that. It wasn't done to piss you off.

I can't believe OP is complaining about a 7 dollar meal....
Seriously even if it is only supposed to have 6-12 shrimp 7 bucks is rather cheap. I mean was the OP expecting? 10,12,20? If they had 20 and the price was 13.99 would we then be bitching about price?
