Executive Orders: Washington - Obama
Listening to all the whiners here bitch about Obama's tyranny made me curious about the use of Executive Orders with past presidents. It's as I thought, typical tigerdroppings whining about nothing.
The form, substance and numbers of presidential orders has varied dramatically in the history of the US Presidency. Numbering of Executive Orders began in 1907 by the Department of State, which assigned numbers to all the orders then in their files dating from 1862 (Lord 1944, viii). Through those efforts, the frequency of unnumbered orders declined sharply. President Hoover attempted to bring further order and regularity to the processing and documenting of Executive orders (ibid).
But it was not until the Federal Register Act in 1936 that a more thorough contemporaneous documentation of Executive Orders began. Before then, and occasionally afterwards, a later discovery of another order has resulted in assigning a number already in use together with an associated letter (e.g., 7709, 7709-A). This practice explains why the total number of orders issued may be greater than the result that would be obtained by subtracting a president’s first order number from his last (and adding 1).

I like how Obama's total doesn't even equal Reagan's first term.

Is the problem the number of executive orders, or defining the limits of what an executive order can legally do?

It's substance over numbers
I could sleep with 1,000 women
But if I sleep with Cindy Crawford
ThaT 1,000 # doesn't seem so important, does it?
Those two numbers are way off but the one time with Cindy Crawford carries so much more weight.
Try again
Anyone who actually knows the facts, will agree

Silly. And we've been over this before. An executive order declaring November 23 "National Cheez Wiz Day" isn't the same as granting amnesty in opposition of passed legislation.
We have some nice consolation prizes for you in the back.

Comparing the number of executive orders is a moot comparison. It would be like taking 2 people and comparing them based on the number of crimes they've committed.
Susie Johnson has committed 5 crimes in her life.
Maggy Mae has committed 2.
Who's worse?
By the numbers, Susie. However, it's not the number of crimes that one commits, it's the nature of those crimes.
Susie has 2 speeding tickets, a parking ticket for an expired meter, an inspection sticker violation (she lives in Baton Rouge, after-all), and she she once downloaded an N'Sync album off of Napster back in 1999.
Maggie Mae stole a gun from a sporting goods store and murdered her ex-boyfriend.
I think we'd all say that Maggie is worse.

Dang it
Makes my sleeping with Cindy Crawford seem petty
Good example

Agree, and even furthered your point. Obama's move clearly is meant to circumvent the separation of powers because he knows he doesn't have a chance of getting it done with his last congress.

What is a shame is that you have to literally spoon feed so many people this type of simple logic. It's sad people like the OP couldn't figure this out on their own.

So then what was Reagan signing executive orders for? Were they useless?

This is a ridiculous argument. Cindy Crawford's mole makes her a 6 at best.

Again, what does the amount have to do with anything ? It really shows idiocy, and a lying nature to suggest such.
You can have 3 million E.O.'s and tweak in a legal manor, or you can have one E.O. that creates law unto itself, making it an illegal action.
Of course you commies don't care the constitution, you only care about your agenda.

Dear Robbie,
You need to give me a call. These talking points were recalled because of the whole "people figured out the difference qualitatively and we desperately need to stop embarrassing ourselves thing". We are going back to the "Racist" meme. Did you not check your email today?
Moving FORWARD together,
Your Best Pal Pimp

Cindy Crawford is barely an OT 5.
