Get install media.
Back up all of your data onto an external hard drive.
Wipe your internal drive and install 64-bit windows.
Copy your data back onto the hard drive.

Do you have a 64-bit processor?

You need to obtain a 64-bit installation, be it buying it or procuring from "other" methods.

You need a disc or an ISO to launch the Windows installer. Since you dont have that disc, you'll need to get it somehow.

You can download Windows for free from Microsoft. But if you want it to last beyond the trial period, you have to buy a license. But it is of course a pretty big download, something like 2-3 GB.

You'd want 8.1 rather than 8 anyway. Why did your computer come with 32-bit preinstalled if it supports 64? What version are you running? 7, 8, 8.1, etc.

LINK for windows 7 isos.

Make sure you download English and x64 of the version you want. You will need to burn it to a dvd or create a bootable usb and then use that to install.

These images generally don't work with the OEM keys that come with a laptop, so if that's what you have you will end up needing to buy a new key.

Do you have BOTH a 64 bit processor AND more than 4GB of RAM.

If the answer is no then don't bother upgrading as you will see no benefit.

I know the answer is no because if you had more than 4GB of RAM you would already have 64 bit.

If you are not adding RAM to go over 4GB, then again... Don't bother.

Yikes, so half of your RAM has gone unused all this time.
