Looking for a recommendation for a moving company to move my family's home furnishings from BR to Prairieville.

Looked at reviews for Student Movers, All My Sons, and Two Men and a Truck. Student Movers had the best rating. Anyone else know of others?

how good is your shite?....if it is fancy stuff, I would say go with one of the brand name moovers...otherwise, you can save an assload of money by renting a uhaul and hiring some experienced movers to do it in their off time (but they won't have insurance on your stuff)...

Haggard +1. Last used them ten years ago but used them three times and they were great and reasonably priced.

How much would one expect to pay for a short distance move (less than 50 miles)? I just got quoted10k ... Is that about right

Seems pricey. How much are you moving? And is that including that they wrap and pack everything?

I'm pretty sure when I got quotes from Mayflower and one of the other national companies, I had a 2/3 bedroom quote to move stuff from NOLA to VA for $5-6k. Think it was another $1k on-top of that to have them pack everything.

Long story short, just ended up packing everything myself, loading it all in a POD and hiring movers to load and later to unload.

EDIT:
I will say just going through the quote price for national companies, you'll see how they itemize things to pack and charge for it. If you decide to go that route, you should quickly learn to start liquidating some of the cheaper items and furnishings as they'll charge you more to pack and move it than the item cost in the first place.

Go to the uhaul website. You can hire moving help there. Uhaul keeps money until you give them a code once your satisfied. Uhaul then transfers money to them. Works very well.

You get to rate then and leave feedback in your experience.

Edit : you may be looking for a full fledged moving company rather than just moving help. I used this service moving 4 bed 3 bath house contents 120 miles.

Student Movers is a great moving company. They are family run and have been around for a long time.

Call Davey Shoring. They can give you an estimate about how much it will cost to move your home from BR to P'ville.

Be aware that they may have to cut the house in half, depending upon how big it is, to move it. They put it back together nicely though.
