Ok, so the Force is all about balance and Anakin was to bring balance to the Force, right? There were thousands of Jedi to two Sith. So the Jedi were reduced to two to balance the emperor and Vader. Then the emperor and Vader die leaving two Jedi with no balance. So...damn, my eyes just crossed...

These little guys are now so fricking concentrated in Luke he's like the guy at the end of Chronicle. bat-shite crazy from OVERWHELMING POWER. Only he's not competent enough to realize the danger he poses so he isolates himself.

That is what is confusing me a little as well. If, as Lucas decided to tell us in the prequels, that there are only 2 Sith at any time, the master and the apprentice, how does there end up being a Sith now that Palpatine and Vader are dead?

Palpatine was obviously the master, and had Darth Mall, Darth Tyranus and then Vader as his apprentices - one replacing the other as the previous apprentice died.

Unless someone (either Luke not being able to control the powers, or Leia or one of their kids) became Force aware and turned dark, I do not see how the Sith still exist.

I thought Anakin (Vader) balanced the force when he killed the emporer and died in the process.

The "balance to the force" prophecy was so stupid precisely because of this.

i dont think balance is a numbers thing in regard to the force. if so, it was balanced before in episode 1 with there being 2 jedis and 2 sith. 2=2.

i think this balance refers to the removal of the darkside. which is where the force resides after ROJ. the darkness has been removed and given balance to the good.

This. It was an idiotic prophecy from the idiotic prequels. Best to just pretend it never existed.

I always thought balance referred to the relative power of each side. At the time of the prequels, two sith were enough to wipe out all of the jedi, but Anakin was powerful enough to bring down the emperor after he turned to the good side again.

See, I saw it completely backwards form that.

Anakin balanced the force when he wiped out tons of Jedi in episode 3. before then, the force was dramatically out of balance with the Jedi being so much more powerful than the sith.

He balanced that in episode 3, prophesy closed.

This is how I saw it. The issue is, and this is due to the prequels and the expanded universe (and yes, I know that the EU technically no longer exists):

In the prequels, the prophecy of the one who will the balance the Force appears. To me, as mentioned, that meant the One would end the Sith, which would also end the darkside of the Force.

In the EU, it is revealed that there really isn't a Dark Side of the Force. The Force is just the Force; it is the individual that is really good (light) or bad (dark).

I'm not ssure if these two concepts jive.

Everyone is just hanging onto a memory.

Star Wars is dead.

As much as I want this to work...its been too long, too separated and too many shitty prequels in between.

The late 1970's early 80's are over man.

To borrow from Star Trek and Captain Kirk..."Move on. Get a life."

It's all mythology now...not based in reality (the fandom) - because the Star Wars franchise - shite has sucked since Empire Strikes Back...and that was almost 40 fricking years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your last great product was fricking 40 years ago...if you were any other business - you would be bankrupt!

That's your opinion.

You couldn't be more wrong. There is so much more to the Star Wars franchise than just the movies.

For years they have made tons of money off of books, toys, games, merchandise, and two cartoon shows. Star Wars has evolved and is so much more than the original trilogy.

Perhaps new movies may never recapture the magic of Empire. However, the bar was set so high, and many people cannot truly temper their expectations. It's sad that the critical failure of the prequels has made so many people cynical about these new movies.

Disney knows Star Wars will sell itself. However, they plan to move beyond just releasing a few new movies. They want to completely reinvigorate the franchise and use the momentum created by these new movies to cash in on theme park expansions and new merchandising.

My only hope is that they learned from where Lucas went wrong in '99. By all accounts it seems like Abrams has listened to what the critics and fans loved about the originals and hated about the prequels. They seem to have a very talented cast put together, so the only real unknown seems to be the writing and story.

I always thought the same thing. The Jedi were too arrogant and egotistical to see that the balance prophecy wasn't about tipping anything their way. It was evening them out. Then the sith were more powerful, And then it took his son to destroy the remaining sith as the eldest Jedi died, and the force was reset. Both anakin and luke were essential to balancing the force.

And since the force just exists everywhere, it was too concentrated in a select few, the skywalkers through 2 generations effectively ended that concentration.

Maybe Jedi bounty hunters who are trained in killing Jedi better than most Sith.

Just seems safe to go straight back to the Sith
I agree. They've already battled the greatest Sith possible, so how can't top that.
