Every time a change is brought up the argument for the status quo is "Name someone better" or "who could've done better" "no guarantee you'll get a good coach".

Besides just being a cop out for people with not enough sense to come up with a better argument for status quo, this argument is predicated on the fact that LSU would NEVER get a better coach. The coach won't be here forever so eventually you have to get a different coach. So if you can't find someone better now, or 4 years ago, it would hold that you can't find someone better 4 years from now. So the real argument is that we have the best coach ever possible and this is as good as it will ever get. Because we couldn't find someone better.

You tellin me someone else couldn't do better than losing 22 games since 08? With the talent base of LA, resources, passion, facilities?

Who do you propose we have a chance at getting if and when a coaching change is made?

The premise is that you don't end up like Texas, with egg on your face, after multiple people turned you down.

You better make sure you can get a/the guy you want if you're going to walk away from the most successful coach in school history.

Apparently OP was born this year to have missed this perfect example.

Gruden is done. He's now been "out" almost as long as he was "in." And he wasn't that great when he was in. Can he consistently deliver 8 wins for 9 consecutive years, and 10 wins for how many of those? Plus a MNC with half Saban's and half his own players as well as another MNC game birth with a team they'd already played?

Who else could deliver this?

If LSU opens up, there will be plenty of options wanting the job. It's silly to deny it. This ain't University of Texas.

It's silly to say LSU is a more appealing job than Texas. Florida and Texas are the top 2 jobs in the country.

There are team going and getting coaches every year.

Plenty of them have passion, recruiting basis, resources, and facilities.

How many of them are winning at the level that you would be satisfied with?

I honestly think we have one of th best programs in college football. An di think Les Miles has helped keep it that way. So no i don't think there is a coach out there who can come in and beat Alabama every year, and lost 0-1 games in the SEC every year.

There are younger coaches coming up in the world, and you go and get them.

A lot of the "best coaches" are great because they have been at a program a long time, and have had time to build it up.

No denying that LSU would be an attractive job. Also, we would need to upgrade our facilities and lead the nation in revenue to be The University of Texas...

Less was 28-21 at Okiestate

0-3 in bowl games.

3-10 against the top 25 teams.

Those stats seem similar to his recent SEC output.....dont they?

Im pretty sure we can find a coach better than that.

How about Mike Gundy. He sniffed around the Ole Miss job a couple of years ago so he's open to the SEC. And I am guessing you like backwater OSU coaches so he should be your guy. Better than Miles for sure.

If there was a Les Miles from 10 years ago that existed at OSU today, and you suggested that we hired him instead, pumpers would call you an imbecile. He would be the exact same coach though. Just because someone eligible isnt doing better somewhere else right now doesn't mean they couldn't do better here. You can argue the chances of that happening all you want.

Mike Gundy is a MAN! And he's a better coach than Miles. I say go for it.

I want someone who's been winning for a long time with mostly 2nd tier talent because ideally with 1st tier talent and resources they're supposed to be better

Names like Gary Patterson, Bronco Mendenhall, and James Franklin come to my mind
