Well, I think it's better because it's different.

I think the 4 point on one side rule for the entire state is a huge factor in the quality of bucks up there. I wish louisiana would do a statewide minimum buck restriction.

absolutely 100% agree

I love that rule. I do like MS's rule on beam/spread length but I rather the 4pts on one side

I've never done it but will someday. I'm intrigued by the size of both the deer body and antler size and the intense rutting which we don't see here in the far south.

I don't know that I'll ever pay for a guided trip however.

We have a family friend with farmland in southeast Iowa that has given us permission to go hunt his land. I will start trying to gain points in 2015 for a buck tag. When I finally get it I'm going to pull the trigger.

I'm also doing some research on a DIY public land trip to one of the miwestern states. Maybe that could pan out to be an OB trip in a few years.

I go with a semi guided outfit in Northwest missouri. It's a pretty sweet deal. If you wanna do an OB trip up there lemme know I'll plan it all out with my guy. It's archery only though.

From my hunting experiences the deer limits are very poorly enforced. Someone hunting on leased or private land can really kill as many deer as they want. But overall I think the hunting mentality down here for most hunters is a lot different than up north.

one more reason the midwest states have huge bucks.

not only do the deer have access to some of the best feed possible, you have to be up close and personal to kill them. It's not uncommon to see 20 deer in an agriculture field up there and have them watch you at 200yds and not care. You don't pose a threat to them at that distance.

The only gun hunting allowed in IL and MO is shotgun and sometime black powder and then thats only for 2 weeks AND after the rut

That's fine by me.

I'm down...how many hunters can they accommodate on the hunt? Length of hunt? Is it fair chase?

Missouri is the only one I think that actually has a "rifle" season, but it's only one week. So Yea definitely less pressure compared to the louisiana with what 3 months of gun hunting lol

Having lived in Iowa for 4 years I can say the deer are ridiculous compared to down here in South LA. I would love to have some land up there in the future to hunt

Headed to my farm in IL this evening can't wait!!!!

People go there because in one hunt I will see more nice bucks than I will in a year in the piney woods of SE LA. Just no comparison!

I'd like to throw my name into the hat for this OB trip.

Actually have a bud returning from Missouri right now, who looked at some potential leases for next season. I'm really hoping he found us one.
